Podcast Week 6 - Change Priorities for No Small Change

Neon Noise is an audiovisual installation by Julia Bünnagel. The work was originally created for the "sightfenster" in Cologne and is now shown by the Kunstverein Bochum in a new version on the facade of the house of the Kortum-Gesellschaft in Bochum. In the floor-to-ceiling window in the entrance area of the listed building, the word NOISE appears, formed from hundreds of neon-green QR codes. The audio file is played via the QR codes.

This is from a series of paintings I have completed that explores the notion of noise as colour. I complete the painted works and then processed an image of the canvas through the program Photosounder. I added a layer of sound, sampled from Max Ricther's version of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons and processed it using AudioMulch. The layers of sound reflect the construction of the paintings. This electro acoustic version of the image is relection of my experimental sound works.

Our translation of the graphic score for Brian Eno's "Music for Airports pt 1". We have taken a 21st century approach to the environment of the airport. After 9-11, the character of the airport has changed to place of suspicion and high anxiety. We hope to have captured this in our live recording from Toronto's Somewhere There.

Sound source: contact microphone, fire escape and rubber glockenspiel mallets. Recorded and played back on a 1950's reel-to-reel unit (no FX etc. used). Captured during my residency 'Stretch & Burn' at Dove Street Studios, Norwich in January 2018.
