The inaugural release from the new Love International X Test Pressing imprint comes from Fantastic Man, the Berlin based Australian whose music has been played by everyone from Aphex Twin to Bicep to Gerd Janson and many more.
  
Love International make good times happen in far flung places, whilst Test Pressing make good times happen physically and in the digital sphere, a meeting of like minds and shared tastes, all bases covered here.  Together this collaboration has been releasing compilation album from the likes of Gatto Fritto, Beautiful Swimmers and Shanti Celeste, and this new label project unites recording artists and designers in a meeting of music and art.

On the ‘Cloud Management’ release, Fantastic Man teams up with Alexander Papoli-Barawati, a German/Filipino/Iranian graphic designer and art director living in Berlin.  The striking and playful graphic design is in tandem with the music, which runs from the beautiful piano–led Balearic sounds of ‘Cloud Manager’ to the floating breaks in ‘Lounge Wizard’, the warped chug tempo in ‘Psychic Monthly’ and the beautiful acid bubbles of release finale, ‘Time Apprentice’.

The second instalment of our Resident Mix series has arrived from the Pizza Amore duo, who we’ve been intertwined with since 2017. Although the guys’ taste has branched off into multiple directions since then, our house music roots remain the same. This recording showcases the past few years, tying them together with the musical adventuring of the present.

● What is the concept of your mix?
We’ve been listening to a lot of music in the past year since the lockdowns, but it was perhaps the classic house sound that we met the least while digging. So it was a fun challenge to compile this mix. We played some of our old favourites mixed with current finds from the catalogues of our favourite labels.

● What type of house music interests you the most these days?
We’ve been enjoying darker, breaky, and minimal style stuff. There’s so much going on in the English, Australian, Dutch and German scenes, there's loads of up and coming labels and producers one can find while being locked up at home. All Centre, Steeplejack, Nous’klaer and Fever AM just to mention a few. We’ve also been listening to a lot of mixes. One of the good things about quarantine and no parties is that these soundwaves seem much more personal. Marci is into Martin Kling and Martinou mixes, while Endre has been listening to Patterns of Perception and Animalia series. It’s dope for us to hear the psychedelic influences in releases in the past 1-2 years.

A resident mix második epizódjával a Pizza Amore duó jelentkezik, akikkel 2017 óta össze vagyunk fonódva. Bár a srácok zenei világa az elmúlt években egyre szerteágazóbb, a house zenei gyökerek közösek maradtak. Ez a felvétel hűen bemutatja a srácok elmúlt éveit, összekötve a múltbeli hangzásokat előremutató kalandozásokkal.

● Mi a mixetek koncepciója?
Az elmúlt egy évben a lezárások óta rengeteg zenét hallgattunk, de talán a klasszik hauz muzsikák voltak azok, amik legritkábban jöttek velünk szembe. Ilyen szempontból kissé kihívás is volt összerakni ezt a felvételt, amibe próbáltunk belegyúrni régi kedvenceket, aktuális findokat és proper kiadók katalógusainak végignyálazásának eredményeit.

● A house zene melyik vonala érdekel titeket most a legjobban?
Kissé rácsúsztunk a sötétebb, törtebb és minimalistább hangvételű cuccokra. Óriási a pezsgés az angol, ausztrál, holland és német szcénán belül is, rengeteg feltörekvő kiadót és producert találni ebben a nagy bezártságban. All Centre, Steeplejack, Nous’klaer és Fever AM csakhogy megemlítsünk egyet-kettőt a teljesség igénye nélkül. Emellett nagyon sok mixet is hallgatunk. Olyan szempontból talán jó ez a karantén és bulinélküliség, hogy sokkal személyesebbnek, emberközelibbnek tűnnek ezek a hangsávok. Marci Martin Kling és Martinou mixekre van nagyon rákattanva Endre pedig a Patterns of Perception és Animalia sorozatokat pörgeti szabadidejében, tanulás mellé. Plusz elég király hallani ezt a rengeteg pszichedelikus behatást az elmúlt 1-2 év friss megjelenésein.

If there’s anyone in Hungary in house music who doesn’t really need an introduction it's Szilvio. He has been churning out tunes and mixes from his bedroom for the past five years to international acclaim. He had been gracing the catalogues of international labels for years by the time he released his debut album last year. All that experience shows when he takes over the DJ booth. It’s no mistake that he’s been invited to record mixes for some serious hitters in the industry such as Melbourne Deepcast, Butter Sessions, c-, The Lot Radio or a Public Possession

Domestically he’s carrying the torch for our scene with his label @this-is-our-time and his event series @itsokaytodance. We are filled with pride that he accepted our invitation to become one of our residents at mhmm parties from here on out.

● What type of house music are you most excited by nowadays? 
I’ve started leaning slightly towards progressive house. I’m in love with hypnotic synth melodies that are surrounded by tribal house percussion, and vocal chops. I’m especially drawn to tracks from the late 90s, early 2000s. It’s quite exciting to dig through that period, as it is quite a challenge to find gems from that time. Luckily some new producers have appeared who are keeping the prog sound alive: @djlifee, @Andersonmusik, @adampits .

● What are the most memorable gig settings you’ve been in? 
200-300 capacity open air parties outside of Budapest in nature, with friends and a cold Club Mate have always been near to my heart. Last summer, when we had a couple months to get together between virus waves, there were a couple of great parties with this type of setting: mhmm x Santsat in the Arboretum by Budakeszi, Pavilon in the hills behind Szentendre, and parties at the Nomad Bar in the Danube bend.

● A couple thoughts regarding the mix?
This recording is meant to accompany dance moves during sunrise. It contains tracks from our new This Is Our Time release, some trancy pieces, and some Route 8 nuggets.

Szilvió hálószobájából több mint 5 éve repülnek ki a megjelenések és mixek. Már tavalyi nagylemeze előtt is neves nemzetközi kiadók katalógusát erősítette, és a világ minden táján táncoltatott már. Ez a tömérdek tapasztalat meg is mutatkozik amikor a pultban áll. Nem véletlen az sem, hogy eddigi mixei többek között a Melbourne Deepcast, Butter Session, C-, The Lot Radio vagy a Public Possession-nél landoltak. 

Itthon a kiadójával (This Is Our Time) és az It’s Okay To Dance szervezői zászló alatt tesz hozzá az szcénához. Büszkeséggel tölt el minket, hogy elfogadta a felkérésünket, hogy mostantól ő is rezidense legyen az mhmm buliknak.

● A house zene melyik vonala kelti fel a leginkább az érdeklődésedet mostanában?
Kicsit elkezdtem menni a progresszív house irányába. Nagyon élem a hipnotikus szinti dallamokat amiket megfűszereznek tribal house dobokkal, és szaggatott vokálokkal. Főleg a 90-es évek végi, 2000-es évek eleji trekkek körében mozgok, amik között elég nehéz megtalálni a gyöngyszemeket. Szerencsére idén több új előadó is felbukkant ebben körben (DJ Life, Anderson, Adam Pits) akik zenéjükkel tovább viszik a prog szellemét.

● Az eddigi fellépéseid közül milyen környezet volt a legmaradandóbb?
Mindig is közel álltak a szívemhez a 200-300 fős Budapesten kívüli open air bulik, a természet lágy ölén, barátokkal és hideg club matéval. Tavaly az első covid hullám után, egész szép volt a felhozatal ezen a téren (Budakeszi Arborétum mhmm x Santsat, Pavilon, Nomád Bár) amikben remélem idén is lesz részünk.

● Pár gondolat a mixről? 
Napfelkeltés táncmozdulatokhoz ajánlom ezt a mixet, amiben szerepel új This Is Our Time kiadványunk mellett egy két trance és Route 8 finomság is.

@gilbertpomelo és @bbnncc ismertsége Nyíregyházára vezet vissza, de évek óta aktívak már a fővárosban is. A srácokból árad a végtelen szeretet és zenei ismeretség. Elszántságukat nem csak kivételes lemezgyűjteményük, de Tilos és Lahmacun rádiós műsoraik is mutatják.

● Hogyan ismertétek meg egymást?

K: Évet nem írok, mert kicsit már összemosódtak, de már Pesten laktam, amikor volt egy passzív félévem, amit Nyíregyen töltöttem és egyetlen normális buli volt ezidő alatt a városban, ahol Bence nyomta a warmupot és juke-ot játszott, ami nem kicsit lepett meg annak fényében, hogy a fővárosban sem lehetett nagyon ilyesmit hallani akkoriban. Másnap ráírtam és megkértem, hogy csináljon egy mixet az akkoriban induló Cosmic Dust podcast sorozatunkba. Ugyanitt szeretném megjegyezni, hogy RIP Romkert és 150 forintos Kőbányai.

● 1-2 emlékezetes buli? dj-ként vagy a közönség soraiból?

K: Tavaly volt egy csodálatos buli a gödi Homokszigeten, ahol zenéltem is, azóta amúgy is nehezen, de előtte szerintem soha nem éreztem magam olyan természetesen zenélés közben, mint akkor. A környezet eleve adta magát és emellett tele volt a tánctér haverokkal, reggelig fürdőzés a Dunában, vasárnap helyett hétfő délután sikerült visszajutni Pestre.

B: Dj-ként a Keleti Blokk búcsúestjén in:form és Gnork bázisáról közvetítettem egy vendégszereplést Carl Oh Tilos Selection c. műsorában, ami egyaránt szólt fm-en és a folyosón is. Emlékezni a nyiregyházi évekre szeretek leginkább, minden egyes session után páli fordulatot vettem akkoriban.


● Kedvenc rádióműsorok a nagyvilágból és itthonról?

K: Real time elég ritkán hallgatok rádiót mostanság (sad), de az NTS-en Nosedrip, Elena Colombi, Kutmah és a Seance Centre havi archívjaiban sosem csalódom, az Eclipse Tribez kiadó műsorát is szeretem a belga Kiosk Radion, itthon pedig Totoya Klub a Tiloson, Lazy Calm Raga, Torso, Donald Kacsa Klub, Erdenklang a Lahmán.

B: 7térítő a Tilos Rádióban, RTS.FM Budapest összes, 60 Hz az EstFM múltjából, a nagyvilágból pedig 90-es évek Kiss FM morzsái Fabio és Grooverider történelemírásával - a folytatáshoz extra karakterszám kellene..

A Resident Mix sorozatunk ötödik, és záró epizódjára, az akusztikus felvételekkel és álmodozós dallamokkal örökké bókoló Switch Nollie egy levegős, gyors house válogatást kevert ki nekünk. Az mhmm és Torso kollektívák fő társ vezénylőjével sok dolgot átéltünk együtt az elmúlt pár évben, így méltó hogy a sorozat utolsó, záró része az ő keze munkája.

A jövőben pedig ebben a rezidensi ötösben (hetesben) találtok majd meg minket az mhmm zászló alatt leggyakrabban a bulikon. 

●  Mit jelent számodra az mhmm és a zenék amikkel foglalkoztok?
Az mhmm-nél a kezdetek óta a house zene volt a fókuszban, rengeteg boldog hangulatú buli volt az elmúlt években ami megidézte a stílus eredeti üzenetét. Az utóbbi években nagyon érezhető volt hogy világszerte kerül át a figyelem és érdeklődés a keményebb techno bulikra, ez Budapesten is arányosan alakul és egyre kevesebb az olyan szerveződés akik igyekeznek előremutató house dj-ket bemutatni az országban. A pandémia ilyen téren az mhmm-nél is lassított a dolgokon, de erős koncepció határozza meg a zeneiségét, ez a mixsorozat is jól prezentálja a csapat ízlését és külön izgalommal várom hogy külföldi inspirációinkat újra bemutathassuk a budapestieknek.

●  Kedvenc kiadó?
Ez mindig időszakos, párhuzamosan a zenékkel amiket fogyasztok. Az biztos hogy tánczenében megkerülhetetlennek érzem az ausztráliában egymás után felbukkanó producereket, kiadókat. A már meghatározó Butter Sessions elég nagy hatással volt rám mindig is, a közelmúltban pedig Kia (akinek egyébként von Somogy a becsületes neve :O ) és az Ő Animalia-ja ahol minden mixet vagy kiadványt izgalommal várok. Európai téren pedig itt van a One Eye Witness disztribúció, félelmetesen betalál minden ami a kezükön átmegy. Nem is tudok annál többet mondani hogy válogatás közben már arra kell törekednem, hogy ne csak olyan megjelenéseket játszak ami hozzájuk köthető.

●  Első zenélős élmény?
Tizenéves koromban 2 fellépés erejéig játszottam egy hardcore-metal bandában, azok voltak az első zenék amiket magamtól elkezdtem kutatni. Aztán ez szép lassan változott de nagyon szeretnék a későbbiekben még ahhoz hasonló élményeket, sokkal inkább el tudnám képzelni magam egy zenekar részeként, másokkal együtt zenét írni mint egyedül a szobámban.
Persze a dj-zésnél ez máshogyan van, én ott próbálom átadni a hatásokat amik érnek és akkor érzek jónak egy bulit ha sikerül ezt összehangolni a befogadókkal.

Loxodrome is the alias of UK producer Jamie Odell aka Jimpster for his more electronic leanings into the fault lines between nostalgia and circuitry.  Rooted firmly in the underground, his Loxodrome output filters the spirit of early 90s IDM through contemporary patchwork—equal parts introspective and rhythm-driven.
Call Me’s ghostly whistles sing over a unrelenting four/four kick whilst tropical samples combine with vintage synths like a love letter left on a dial-up modem.  Nostalgic, yes—but warped through future tense.

Floss Dogg has gone from strength to strength since she started performing at Primer, an event she co-runs alongside partners Robbie nine-0 and Freddy Gardens since 2017. She plays a mixture of club heat, packing a bag that spans from UK bass and techno to classic house and garage. To further nourish her need to create and share music, Floss created the Astro girl night at Angel Music Bar, a platform which highlights Melbourne’s more underground DJs. Alongside that, she is also the host of Arvo Girls, a monthly Skylab Radio broadcast which doubles as a weekly night at Dr Morse.

Andre, the founder of mhmm, is opening the series with a glimpse into what he sees as the house music that defines the brand. Groovy, airy, melodic tunes with hints of live instrumentation. Starting off modestly, and then picking up the pace.

We asked him a couple of questions to set the tone:

● When was the first time you performed in front of people? How was it?
The first time I can remember was at a friend’s house party. It wasn’t really planned, I was just one of the people from that friend group who was interested in electronic music and DJ-ing. I probably just played a couple tunes, even though I barely knew what I was doing. I remember we bought a beat-up DJM 400 together in the months before that and since we couldn’t figure out an easier way, we had two laptops running into a channel each on the mixer. We felt like we were on top of the world.

● What is the concept of your mix?
The mission of mhmm is to be an ambassador for house music. It is about championing this genre, and the positive value it can have on people’s lives. As such I wanted to showcase the feel-good, groovy, cutting edge house music that inspired the brand to be born.

I start slower with shimmering melodies, laidback beats, and live-ish instrumentation. Over the course of the mix I gradually climb the bpms to the wilder club-oriented, techy, minimal poppers.

● What type of house music gets you most excited these days?
Recently I’m most excited about what I would say is airy, technical, modern house music. One way I would characterize it is “soft techy house”. Two past guests of ours Liquid Earth (Urulu) and Gene On Earth are perfect examples of this type of vibe.

I’m also really excited about other subsets of house music that use elements of minimal, electro, and trance. Shoutout to all the crazy talented Australians and Canadians tearing up the game right now. Also shout out to all the dope Danish producers who have been inspiring us for years.

A rezidens DJ mix sorozatunkat André nyitja egy gondosan válogatott csokor house zenével amiket az mhmm-es house zene velejének érez.

● Mi volt az első alkalom, hogy közönségnek zenéltél?
Az első emlékem egy haverom házi bulijából van. Nem volt igazán eltervezve, csak az egyik voltam a baráti csoportban akit érdekelt az elektronikus zene. Pár számot rakhattam fel személyesen, csak találgatva. Emlékszem, hogy pont az előtte való hónapokban vettünk egy erősen használt DJM 400-at közösen barátok, és végül csak két külön laptoppal fejenként egy sávon tudtuk megoldani, hogy két helyről jöjjön zene. Őrületes élmény volt.

● Mi a mixed koncepciója?
Az mhmm missziója, hogy a house zenei műfajnak egy bástyája legyen itthon. A cél egy szerintünk alulreprezentált műfaj felvillanyoztatása, ami örömet hozhat emberek életébe. Ezért kifejezetten azt a fajta jókedélyű, groovy, penge house zenét szerettem volna bemutatni ami a bulik létrehozását ihlette.

Lassabban indul a mix szép dallamokkal, laza ütemekkel, élőbe hajló hangszerelésekkel. Aztán fokozatosan mászok felfelé a bpm-eken a vadabb, techy, letisztultabb klub zenékkel.

● A house zene melyik vonala érdekel most a legjobban?
Az utóbbi időben nagyon megfogott a levegős, technikás, modern house zene. Úgy nevezném, hogy “puha techy house”. Két múltbeli vendégünk @liquidearthmusic (Urulu) és @geneonearth jó példák erre a vonalra.

Nagyon izgalmasak számomra mostanában még a house zenének a minimálba, elektróba, trancebe hajló hangzásvilágai is. Az utóbbi években elképesztő, hogy az Ausztrálok és a Kanadaiak mennyi jó zenét készítenek. Illetve Dániában vannak még komoly house zenei szerveződések amik évek óta inspirálnak minket.
