Frank Maurel is one of Portugal’s finest electronic exports. His first forays into production were released on Kaos Records back in 2001, and over the course of a 30+ year career Frank has released on some of the most respected labels in the game, including Ovum, Transmit Recordings, Under No Illusion and Natura Viva, Djing at clubs like Womb in Tokyo, Pacha and El Cielo New York, Rex Paris and Space Miami. Along the way.

Following their recent collaboration on Natura Viva earlier this year, Frank has once again teamed up with his countryman Mario Franca on a stunning EP for Steve Bug’s Sublease Music.

Mario Franca is an industry veteran, starting his career back in the mid 90s playing at clubs like Rocks, Europa Sunsire, Gare, Pedra do Couto. Early releases landed on KingStreet Sounds, Great Stuff Recordings, Brise Records and many more, with his collab Sequencer alongside Lauhaus topping Beatport’s Deep House chart back in 2019.

Their EP for Sublease is Brainstorm: two tracks of tough, groove-driven, hypnotic house music that demonstrate why both these producers are held in such high regard the word over.

Vision is a deep, compelling house cut, with whirling, shimmering synths and echoing vocals creating a dream-like atmosphere while the powerful drums propel the groove forward. Drive Beat is darker in tone, with metallic whirls and clanks creating a more twisted vibe, a si- newy synth-line coming to the fore in the break and building to a head-spinning climax.

Music is 4 Lovers starts summer with an anthem from stud Texas producer, Brett Johnson, entitled Always—featuring Los Angeles vocalist Mikey V and Canadian musician Stéphane Vera on keys. 

“Brett reached out to me about submitting a tune for the label,” says Jimbo James, Music is 4 Lovers editor-in-chief and label founder, “of course I’m going to peep out a tune from bad ass Brett Johnson! The original roped me in immediately with its steady groove, dramatic melodies, and catchy vocals.”

Remix duties fall into the hands of Zürich-based producer, Michal Ho, and Romanian deep tech maniac, Mihai Popoviciu. Michal dices up two meaty versions: vox and dub, while Mihai keeps his rendition deep and vibey.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Mihai Popoviciu for years,” continues Jimbo, “I asked a friend for Mihai’s e-mail address and cold-called him—he was down! And studio wizard Michal Ho comes straight out of Brett Johnson’s Rolodex.”

Always is set to hit stores on Friday, July 13, 2018.

Acclaimed German DJ & producer Reboot takes the reins of the essential next Get Physical compilation, this time focusing on Amsterdam ahead of the famous conference. 

Reboot’s innovative house & techno has landed on Get Physical since 2016 in the form of two EPs and one excellent full length offering. Before that he amassed a fine discography of expertly designed, infectious grooves on labels like Cadenza, Defected and Cocoon. In September he releases his next great four tracker, Endis, on the label, and this compilation features six of his superb originals with six of his trademark remixes making up the rest of the tracklist. 

Things open up with Reboot’s ‘Krazkil’, a freaky tune filled with alien sounds scuttling over a rubbery drum line, then his remix of Spettro's ‘Get Tropical’ gets more percussive and tribal with its loose, tumbling toms, and three more remixes of Ramboiage, DJ T. and M.A.N.D.Y. sink into deep house, loopy jazz tinged grooves and scintillating, spaced out tech. 

The perfectly balanced mid-section takes in originals ‘Paroxysm’ and ‘Rocbell’ which are wonderfully dreamy house tracks with gorgeously pensive pads, then remixes of Animal Trainer and Pezzner that strip things back to deep, cavernous grooves designed to get lost in. A closing and terrific trio of Reboot tunes keep things spine tinglingly deep and spacious, the last of which is laced with beautiful ambience and drifting spoken word vocals that leave your mind feeling utterly empty and soothed. 

This is a fantastic mix that shows off Reboot’s expert knack for stripped back but atmospheric and all-consuming grooves.

Returning to Deeperfect, Russian producer Yulia Niko drops her ‘Man Like Star’ single with remixes from Conceptual’s Farid Odilbekov and Lauter Unfug’s August Artier. Niko’s perpetual rise is indisputable as she continues to release on labels like Plant 74, Rebellion, Hottrax, Get Physical, and Crosstown Rebels. She’s also behind Libe Vibe which has released music from the likes of Enzo Leep, Mendoza, and Cobra Nina Viper. Having released and remixed for Deeperfect last year, she now returns to Stefano Noferini’s label with a quality single further cementing her reputation as one of house and techno’s most exciting fresh talents. ‘Man Like Star’ meanders forward with firm kicks and rattling shakers, soon joined by deep chords and a spoken vocal sample before a sultry bassline and skippy snares are added to the equation. Providing the first of two remixes, Moscow’s Farid Odilbekov’s take is intricate and hypnotic thanks to soaring pads, shuffling percussion and a funky bassline. Tying it all together, Libe Vibe producer August Artier’s rhythmic remix ups the energy and deploys a wide range of drums, trippy atmospherics and crystalline stabs.
