Hand Steady

After first appearing on the ‘Fusic Volume 4 EP’ back in November 2013 with his track ‘Yours’, Antony Difrancesco impressed so much that he was asked to complete a solo release for the label. This October Antony debuts on FUSE London with the luminous ‘Level 3 EP’.

Title track ‘Level 3’ sets the tone with crisp percussion, a spiraling melody and echoing vocals culminating in a premium peak-time groove. Following on is the standout ‘NoMore’  which takes a much deeper approach. ‘NoMore’ is a gorgeous reflective journey characterized by a swinging rhythm and a warm floating synth. ‘Free’  made alongside LYLI completes the EP and is another dreamy track with angelic vocals and chords and a stuttering groove.

The ‘Level 3 EP’ is an elegantly balanced debut release from Antony Difrancesco. Despite being a relative newcomer in production terms, Antony demonstrates real music dexterity combining more dance floor ready tracks with introspective efforts. It seems that FUSE London have unearthed another promising producer and one who sounds instantly at home on the label.

London producer @joeashworth has been on my radar for a while, with his ‘Zubr’ collaboration with Kiwi getting some heavy rotation round my way. I actually tried to sign it I think. It’s been great to see him progress, with a slew of EPs on Needwant and other releases on Anjunadeep, Holic Trax and Sneaky Music plus remixes for Shadow Child & Ben Pearce and Andre Crom in recent times. 

His sound continues to develop and branch off in different directions, and this moody new track from his ‘Braun’ EP – the first release on Glaswegian duo Mia Dora’s @poster-boy-records – is one of his most impressive to date. Taking its cues from the brooding progressive / techno sound of Life & Death et al, it dials things up to an intense energy with its shuffling rhythms, chubby arpeggiated bassline and snarling synths. It reminds me a little of early 2000s prog, in a very good way.

Celebrating our 20th release, Glasgow's Dave Clark returns to Optimo Trax as Sparky. He was responsible for the third release on the label as LUMA which featured the club smash "John Broadwood" and recently had another big club hit with "Signals" on Numbers. We are delighted to welcome him back in what is a contunuation of a relationship that stretches back further than we care to remember.

All four tracks here are certified dancefloor winners; from the reach for the lasers, kickless "Things Fall Apart" through the synth rhapsodies of "Black Swan" and "My Prophet", climaxing in the jacking "Seven Daggers". All killer, no filler is often a trite cliche in these blurbs but is entirely true in the case of this EP.
