Let the Ghost Back in

As a 90's kid, Mia Kai listened to mostly R&B, hip hop and alternative rock growing up, and was inspired by artists like Aaliyah, Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, Brandy, The Cranberries, No Doubt, and TLC. Singing came very naturally to her at a young age, although she was very shy about her music and kept it to herself mostly. 

Born in Seoul, Korea and growing up in Okinawa Japan and the DC suburbs in Northern Virginia, she credits her unique and passionate sound to her diverse background. That wanderlust continued into her young adulthood, and Mia lived in big cities Chicago and Los Angeles after graduating college, pursuing music along the way. After a tough time navigating the music industry, she decided to take another path for a while but never let her passion for singing die. After the pandemic forced her to slow down in 2020, she taught herself to play the piano and dove back into songwriting while quarantined at her parent's house. This period of loneliness, but ultimately inner peace and creative expression, spawned the tracks that will be released on her upcoming EP. 

Mia Kai is now based in Brooklyn, New York where she has performed at well-known venues like Ashford & Simpson's Sugar Bar, Bowery Electric and the Triad Theater. Check out her new single "Room", now streaming everywhere.
