Mia Koo (born Aug 22, 1990) is a New York/LA based pop singer, writer, and producer currently signed to her label Shining Star Records/Royalty Network/BFM Digital Distribution. In 2004 she started a band with her sister Ava “The Kung Fu Girls” selling over 10,000 units independently of their debut album “Thinking of You” produced by Tom Higgenson of Plain White T’s. Touring all across America for 4 years playing House of Blues tours, the Viper Room in LA, to the Knitting Factory in New York. Mia eventually signed to APA Agency on the same roster as Flo Rida, Andrew McMahon, Thrice, Bayside, Ray Jay, and many more. Although an active musician since then, her writing career blossomed in 2007 when she wrote “Gimme a Chance” and “Our Time Now” for the Plain White T’s on their Grammy nominated record “Every Second Counts”. She wrote/sang on multi-platinum single “Our Time Now” charting at #66 on Billboard Pop 100 and #29 on Billboard Modern Rock Tracks. “Our Time Now” was also featured as the theme song for ABC Family’s “Greek”, appeared on American Idol, iCarly, Wii Cheer, Sims 2, and Ultimate Band. It was also featured in the Disney Channel Original Movie Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board and a Norwegian commercial for As the Bell Rings. Kung Fu Girls came to an end in 2009, but as a writer Mia pushed through and never stopped writing.
Mia Koo signed a publishing deal with Royalty Network pitching to artists such as Britney Spears, P Diddy, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Flo Rida, and Enrique Iglesias. Mia has also written jingles for Wind Up Records in NYC and started a label/studio in Brooklyn to perfect her craft. Mia’s track record includes cowriting for artists such as Inna, Stacy Clark, Airdate, Eytan and the Embassy, Patent Pending, and Plain White T’s. Her music has been featured on various College radio stations across the world, US Billboard Hot 100, US Billboard Pop 100, and US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks, and shows such as MTV’s The Hills, Hard Times with RJ Berger, American Idol, Canadian Idol, VH1′s Tool Academy, and various other TV shows internationally. She is now performing under her new solo Project “Mia and the Moonlight” after her relocation to Los Angeles from NYC. She is currently in the studio recording her new album for her newest project Mia and the Moonlight after just recently signing a world wide distribution deal with Royalty Network/BFM Digital April of 2013.
