SIN 2/7...ENVY: resentful longing caused by someone else’s qualities.

There is no worse feeling than looking at yourself in the mirror, wishing the reflection staring back at you was someone else. Someone prettier. Someone thinner. Someone richer. Someone...better than you. I wrote this song in hopes of connecting with the millions of people who feel worthless particularly due to the appearance of others. In a world that revolves around social media, it's nearly impossible to avoid the toxic facades thrown our way every single day.

SIN 3/7…WRATH: Extreme anger
Despite my bubbly personality and bright smile, I actually have a lot of “deep rooted rage” as my therapist once described it. Where that anger stems from is a conversation for a different time,  so for now I give you “Mercy”. With this song I pretty much compiled every single feeling of outrage I’ve ever felt from my past relationships. This song goes out to the ones who mistook my kindness for weakness. Reminder: You are stronger than you think. OWN YOUR FKN POWER.

SIN 5/7 . . .GREED: An intense, selfish desire for money, power, and status.

If my alter ego was a song, it would be “Stick-Up”. This modernized jazz-inspired piece paints the picture of a Burlesque dancer who’s sick and tired of the creepy men in the audience who get a bit too frisky with her. So naturally, she robs them of all their money. But in this particular case, her target stays persistent so the only action guaranteed to put him in his place is to kill him. Problem solved! This song makes me feel like a super hot, bad bitch villain who stomps on men for fun (goals, am I right?), and I know it will make you feel the same.

Sin 7/7...GLUTTONY: Excess in eating or drinking.

Wow...we did it. The final sin in my Seven Deadly Sin-gles project is complete. I cannot believe an entire year is done. This sassy upbeat song is the perfect way to end 2021 and welcome the new year. We're going out with a bang...literally ;)

When shit hits the fan in my present life, I create alternate realities for me to escape to. Some call it dissociating, but I call it storytelling. Is it the healthiest coping mechanism? No. Has it single-handedly carried all inspiration for my music? One thousand percent. Although each reality I create has a slightly different theme (being a flight attendant, a princess, a boxer, a burlesque dancer, an office employee), the underlying feeling is the same: I'm a bad bitch. Therefore...I'm a bad bitch in my alternate reality.

I wrote "Burning Hell" while looking at the Macbook Catalina wallpaper. The entire song was inspired by that photo. I imagined myself standing on the top of the island, looking out, up, and down. This is by far one of my most obscure writing experiences/stories and I absolutely love it. You never know when creativity will strike and that's the beauty of making music. This song is powerful, angsty, and VERY visual. (For fun,  google "MacBook Catalina wallpaper" and then play this song).

When I'm in a depressive episode, every aspect of my life is impacted—my ability to accept and receive love being at the forefront. Accepting love from my family and friends is incredibly challenging for me, but I've learned it's much more beneficial for my well-being to have their help rather than shutting them out completely. (I am beyond grateful to have a family that supports me, but living in the dark enables you to see the light majority of the time). Accepting love from myself to myself is pretty much impossible, but something I actively work on improving. But the most difficult love to accept is that from a partner.  

I feel like a partner could never understand what I'm experiencing, and I would hate to burden anyone with so much darkness. So when it comes to balancing a relationship while being in this miserable frame of mine, it's much easier to swear off romantic love altogether. An easy decision for me but not necessarily an easy concept for someone to understand who's never dealt with severe depression. Sometimes it feels like I'm screaming at a wall, sparing no details while describing the horrible thoughts I have in my head while the other person continues trying to move forward. The feeling of not being listened to, taken seriously, etc., has been a recurring theme in my life, so I wrote this song as an "I am forcing you to listen to me whether you like it or not." Reclaiming my voice. Turning my pain into power. Reminding you that you deserve to be heard.

Straws

Although an easy topic for some, writing about anything under the umbrella of intimacy is very difficult for me. My first experience with the subject was saturated with verbal abuse (lasting a year), causing a lot of shame and trauma that I'm still working through seven years later. I allowed someone else's insecurities to severely tarnish my ideas about intimacy, my own sexuality, and my body. Although my perspective is still cloudy, it's a lot clearer than it once was. 

I'm an open book when it comes to literally anything...besides this. It's the most vulnerable part of me to express and something I've refused to open up about. Until now :). This song isn't sad or a cry for help. It's a celebration of the beauty and miracle that is my body. Healing sixteen-year-old Mia - in song form. Exploring my sexuality - in song form. Pushing myself wayyyyyyyy outside of my comfort zone - in song form.

This song is about an extremely verbally/mentally abusive relationship I was in for two years, and luckily in which I was able to get out of. I use a lot of symbolism and exact references to very specific details in my writing because the small things (whipped cream, washing the dishes, candies) are really cover ups for the major issues and trauma that took place within those two years. This song is a very personal one and I mention things that only few know, so I'm putting myself out there so that listeners experiencing a similar situation feel less alone. Writing this song just felt good, and was by far the most therapeutic one I've ever written. I hope you enjoy this powerful song as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Washing The Dishes

This song is about my strenuous journey of missing one of my best girlfriends who, for a while, was no longer apart of my life. We had such a strong connection and understood each other on levels that were truly indescribable. She was the silliest, most caring, loving person I had ever met and not having her in my life was the hardest breakup I had ever experienced. This song captures a few of the many special connections we had, and is basically a time line of how our breakup made me feel. I’m so beyond grateful to say that she is now back in my life, and I couldn’t feel more lucky. We always knew we had a unique relationship and our reconnection really solidified just how important we are to each other. I love this girl with all of my heart, so this one is for her. Standing Still

This song describes the time in which my very last straw was broken while in this relationship. There were so many frustrating bumps in the road that I had pushed aside for the sake of our relationship, but at a certain point you have to live for yourself-not your partner. I was fed up with putting so much pressure on myself to be this “perfect” person when in reality that is not humanly possible. This track is my triumphant way of saying that I’m done with this situation and that I’m…over it. Hope you guys enjoyed this track, this is one of my absolute favorites!

This song seems as if I’m singing about a random little girl, but really, that little girl is myself. Growing up, I always worried about everything I couldn’t control and had a very serious fear of the unknown. To this day, I’m still trying to figure out why my brain was wired that way, because no kid should put as much pressure on themselves as I put on myself to fix not only my own problems but everyone else’s. This song is almost as if I’m singing to my younger self and warning those around her to help her then considering how much those fears have grown now. I can’t remember what it was like to not be so incredibly hard on myself, and it saddens me to think that at such a young age I made my life so difficult. I wish I could hold my younger self and tell her everything is going to be okay even though her thoughts made her believe otherwise.

Little Girl

This track is my way of describing what it feels like to have a mental breakdown. I feel as though going through such an event is normal even though more often than not society makes it seem to be unhealthy and/or strange. In my opinion, when you feel yourself “losing it” I find it best to not fight the process and just let it happen. For me, I prefer to isolate myself from others and temporarily let my dark thoughts take over because I know after some time they will pass. If I try to deny the fact that I’m stuck in my own brain, things will only become worse and far more difficult to handle. The overall message of this song is to remember that it is okay to not be okay, and having low points in life is what makes us human. I often find this concept of having a mental breakdown is really just a battle with myself, and you can see exactly what I mean in the “Stuck” music video which is to be released the same day as the song. I hope you enjoy this dark anthem as much as I enjoyed creating it!

This song touches on my tendencies-in the past-to only go for the guys that mentally ruined me. Even though now I'm ready to be in a happy stable relationship, my heart still longs for trauma. Backwards, I know. But as you continue to get to know me and my work you will notice that's kind of a reoccurring theme. The healthy relationships I’ve had in the past never seemed to cut it for me. The men I’ve unfortunately had to dump would be literal angels and I wouldn’t understand why it didn’t feel as passionate as to the men (boys) that have destroyed me. With years and years of work on myself, I’ve learned I don’t need to be manipulated and mentally abused to be “happy” or “content” in a relationship. What I do need is a challenge. Verbal destruction and a challenge are two very different things. It’s taken me a lot of blood, sweat, and tears to understand that but hey, better now than never.

Same Old Story

This track is my not so subtle way of telling a guy to grow a pair and make a move. I wrote this about a year ago when I was talking to a guy I had met in the gym. He was a former bodybuilder, so his physique was impeccable. I mention that in the first line when I sing, "The callus on your hands so thick and high...". We had incredible chemistry when we'd see each other, and the comments he made to me were definitely more than just friendly.  But, as soon as it was time to hang out (outside of the gym), he avoided the situation at all costs. Right when I'd tell myself "okay move on", he'd flirt with me again in the gym. I was so unbelievably confused. So, if you are dealing with a wishy-washy human being...just send them the link to this song. It does the confrontational part of it for you lol.
