Home of established and acclaimed artists like, for instance, Miss Kittin, The Hacker, Djedjotronic, Kris Baha, Jensen Interceptor, and Cardopusher, just to name a few, the French platform Zone is second to none when it comes to delivering high-quality underground electronic music. And their latest release, “Brain Dead”, is here to prove the point. Doing the honours, Jordan Lieb aka Black Light Smoke spared no efforts to hand over a remarkably eclectic four-original EP that comes with a frenzied dark-as-hell remix by maestro Alessandro Adriani.

For “Brain Dead”, Jordan decided to bring together his most ancient influences and added pinches of new elements resulting in a retro-but-fresh take of far-from-fluffy genres such as Cold Wave, EBM, and Electro-Funk. The latter being the main reference of the theme premiered here.

“Nailed To The Ground” should be called “Nailed To The Dance Floor”, instead. Its energizing attitude echoes like an irrecusable invitation to some proper booty shaking. A bouncing bassline topped with sequenced synth riffs and acid shards plus beautiful deadpan vocals and an upbeat cowbell line bring to life a vital cut for the lovers of breakbeats out there.

Exclusive Skatman 'Meraki (Ivory's Pychedelic Rework)'

After four catalogue numbers Aziz Haddad alias Skatman releases his first EP  on the label he founded in 2016, Scatcity. 'Back In The Zukunft', how Skatman's debut EP is called, consists out of three original tracks and a remix of 'Meraki' by one of the scene's aspiring artist, namely Daniel Tagliaferri, who's better known under his Ivory-moniker. Having released on Kompakt, Sol Eterno and delivering Scatcity's previous EP, 'Mindfullness', which was strongly supported by a wide-range of music-connoisseurs and made it into the record bags of Red Axes, Dixon and Ame. Daniel's approach on 'Meraki' features, as the working title already suggests, a psychedelic touch the intro points out subtly in the reams of detailed and apparent deep and multi-dimensional soundscapes. After two minutes and eight seconds 'Meraki' is literally added a 'punchline' with the bass line's introduction, which simultaneously supports the twirling and swirling synths and retain the tension throughout the track.

Skatman's EP 'Back In The Zukunft' will be released October 26th, 2018 on Scatcity.
