It's hard to put into words how special sunrise at Blazing Swan is to me. To be able to play a sunrise set each year in the God Said No pyramid as the light cracks over the salt lake and sky gets brighter is something I'm deeply grateful for. This year especially so as it was the night after a particularly emotional temple burn. Lots of feels to send out through the music and a real sense of connection with my dear friends and all the Blaze community that came and danced into the morning. Thank you to all of you for being there. Thank you to the absolute legends I shared the stage with and thank you to the GSN crew for making the pyramid rise from the dust again in 2021. If you were there I hope this mix brings back some good memories and if you were somewhere else I hope this mix pleases your ears and makes you want to wiggle a little. I hope I get to see you next year!

Portal 3000 - Bridge to New Earth @ Chabot Space Center

This week, we are starting a series of live recordings from the inaugural Unison Campout. Unison was a project Space Cowboys have been a part of since the beginning—combining the forces of many communities and crews to raise money during the pandemic with livestreams and this was the first all in-person event!

It makes sense then to open the series with @Lowdeka, whose killer set opened up Saturday after the ceremony and tore up the dance floor!

About Lowdeka:
Lowdeka is a Producer/Dj and California native who has three decades in the various incarnations of the west coast underground culture. As a b-boy (break dancer) battling his way through the 90's and as a Dj since 1999. This has had a profound influence on his music style which can be heard in a variety of genres.  As a producer, Lowdeka is in pursuit of the perfect amalgamation of the sounds that inspire him; funky bass lines, hype breaks, head bobbing rhythms, aggressive drops and an unrelenting energy is shared amongst an array of genres that make up his unique style.

This is not a promo mix and I’m not trying to generate work off the back of it, it’s simply a mid-tempo DJ mix.  I have been collecting tracks for a while that didn’t seem to fit anywhere in my sets, but that I really love, so I decided to put them into a mix in their own right… music with a late night, deep & sleazy electronic feel, full of atmosphere, with a splattering of dark funk thrown in.

Meat Katie 'Lowering The Tone’ Podcast - Episode 23 (Exclusive Classic Breakbeat & Tech-Funk Mix)

As part of our up coming 'Ten' project (which celebrates ten years of MC Shureshock and I having worked together) we are digging through the digital crates to find a bunch of old mixes we have done. This first one is a personal fave of mine. It's a mix I did for a magazine called 'Remix' in 2000 and was one of the first 'official' mixes I ever did. It may be from 2000, and it may now be 10 years old, but damn the beats still sound fresh! Oh and this was pre-Ableton days! i.e. it was done by mixing records together on two Technics turntables and a mixer (via pasting a hundred million takes together mind you!). Ask any punter in Perth who Micah is and chances are they were probably rockin’ out to one of his sets last weekend. Micah has earned himself the reputation of one of Perth's leading DJs, through his ability to get even the coldest of feet on the dance floor, his energy and enthusiasm behind the decks and through the burgeoning scene which has grown with him over the last decade.

Discovering a talent for a craft which he has come to live by, Micah embraced the DIY attitude of a young DJ fueled by a burning desire to create and run events where he and his mates could showcase their talents, delivering to a party hungry niche in the market. The early 90's saw Micah putting on small dance parties wherever he could find enough space or a venue that was willing to have him. Micah’s can do attitude saw his parties grow, one such effort culminating in a 2000+ free annual event in the Pine forests north of Perth. From 1997 to the year 2000 these underground parties became the highlight for many a punter, until the authorities stepped in.

Out of the Pines and into clubland, Micah and his mates embarked on a different approach, teaming up with the Awarehouse Crew. This ensemble were responsible for the increasingly popular Autophon nights held at Ambar Niteclub, continuing for good on two years. Whilst running and DJing at these night, Micah gained invaluable knowledge in reading the crowd, learning how to get the dance floor crankin’; and worked on fine tuning his skills and dexterity behind the decks. A relationship built on a solid foundation with Ambar saw him become their number one resident DJ over the ensuing 16 years.

Micah’s popularity with punters has been complemented over the years by his many accolades received, taking out Top Breakbeat DJ in the Perth Dance Music awards for the last 10 years, as well as being voted Western Australia’s number one DJ in the 2007, 08, 09, 10 INTHEMIX Top 50 awards.

Displaying a keen willingness to be an active participant in the community, Micah co-hosts the Beat Suite, a weekly night at the Velvet Lounge showcasing local talent, as well as hosting his own radio show, Monday Full Frequency alongside another WA local, Philly Blunt, on RTR FM 92.1 (3-5pm www.rtrfm.com.au).

Micah’s unabashed enthusiasm, energy and skills behind the decks have seen him become a Perth festival regular playing pretty much every festival that comes through Perth each year. Including over the years: Earthstomp, Global Dance, Sunshine People NYD, Innercity, Good Vibrations, Summerdayze, Two Tribes, Breakfest, Major Break and Parklife. December saw Micah earn himself a highly sought quite a long bio yeah after and well earned late afternoon spot on the seven time award winning Breakfest main stage, alongside the likes of Q-bert, Lee Coombs, Stanton Warriors and the Plump DJs. An opportunity that has breakbeat DJs the world over clambering for.

The last few years have seen Micah play across Australia and New Zealand and land in the UK and Europe playing at Fabric Nightclub @ The Plump DJs Headthrash night, Timbuk 2 in Bristol, The White House and Platform 12 at Canvas Nightclub London and at the legendary Supercharged night in Brighton. As well as a show across Europe.
