** PRESENTING THE FIRST OFFICIAL REISSUE PROJECT FROM MUSIC IS MY SANCTUARY ***

Born out of an era of occupied squats and DIY artist spaces, the Geneva-based “total art” collective had to cross an ocean to start finding an audience.

For us, the love affair with Black Citron’s music started when we first came in contact with two of their tracks appearing on a very obscure Montreal-based compilation titled ‘L’Album Blanc Vol. 2″.

Their music was experimental and groovy. Minimal and free. Organic and electronic. A sound which you’d have a hard time defining accurately without naming tons of different other genres and bands. One thing was for sure, it sounded cutting edge even by today’s standards.

As we started digging and investigating into the story of these two tracks we soon found out that they actually didn’t originate from our home city of Montreal, but were by a group from Switzerland who recorded them here in the late 80’s in the legendary Foufounes Electriques venue.

Black Citron were a collective of artists that had core members but also had others that would appear based on the project. Musicians, Designers, Photographers. The lead singer Evelyne Schumacher mentions the label “art total” as the best definition overall of the philosophy.

We fell in love with Black Citron, their music, story and artistic approach so much that we embarked on a project to create an anthology of all their work. An archival project we are happy to announce will get an official reissue on vinyl in full collaboration with the collective from Switzerland.

As a first taste of their music, here is “Revolution Rap” released in 1986 on a 7″ private press record under the Clinik alias. An incredible slice of experimental rap / post-punk / minimal drum machines. This track somehow gained an audience in Montreal and open up some doors for the band to travel to Canada and start the cross-Atlantic collaboration.

Although the recorded history Black Citron’s music only spans four years, they made some of most daring and revolutionary songs of that era. It has been a really incredible pleasure for us to dive deep in their catalog to gather their tracks which are spread out on vinyl and cassettes.

As a second preview, a taste of the upcoming reissue project, let’s jump forward to the last record Black Citron released officially, in 1990. Feast your ears on “Les Nouveaux Bisons.

We are in the final stages of gathering tracks, photos, prints in full collaboration with the band. We are beyond excited to bring all of this stunning music together on the definitive retrospective of Black Citron’s music.

The Australian-based Jamie Porteous is releasing his debut album on Music For Dreams ‘Tropical Mountain Man’.

The album came to life in the middle of the corona pandemic. Whilst Australia was in lockdown Jamie got a job as an “essential” worker, delivering coffee up the coast of Queensland. This would turn out to be an adventurous road trip where Jamie would stop at all his favourite haunts.

In 2018 Jamie moved from Ibiza after having lived there for 10 years. The road trip would have Jamie and his Ibiza dog Teela drive the coffee van far North from their home on the subtropical Gold Coast.
After passing Capricorn the waves stop, the reef starts and the full tropical ecosystems kick in. The mountains become filled with palm trees and the bounty beaches with coconuts. Also, the animals become stranger and more colourful. There’re wild crocodiles, cassowaries, pythons, and beautiful Ulysses butterflies.

At Jamies favourite Aussie spot with a Daintree tea plantation surrounding him the phrase ‘Tropical Mountain Man’ came to his mind. Jamie says “accompanied by a friend we would sing this hilarious song ‘Tropical Mountain Man’ which sounded like the opening of a children's cartoon. Kind of a Spongebob vibe.” This can be heard at the end of the song ‘Tropical Mountain Man’.

It truly felt like being in heaven at times and I will never forget this unique experience. As soon as I got home, I started producing the songs inspired by these 2 months on the road.” – Jamie

The Bill Brewster Podcast #692 (Short Version)

The Ghent home of Reinhard Vanbergen and Charlotte Caluwaerts has proven a cornucopia of wonderful pop music in past years. From the critical triumph of their indie-disco project Rheinzand (alongside Mo Disko) to a sprawling catalog of solo and collaborative albums, the two seem to have struck upon a bottomless goldmine of dazzling electronic pop.

On this newest release, the pair team up with electronic sound magician Reinhard Roelandts to deliver a teeming bundle of intelligent and atmospheric electronic pop. From the bleeping neo-psychedelia of ‘More Than I Wanted’ or ‘Consolation for the Times’ to the shrewd art-pop of ‘Bitter Silhouette’ or the quirky aquatic charm of ‘Only Love’.

The sound is playful and whimsical yet assured and sophisticated. It is a more humble and reflective pop than for example Rheinzand’s operatic disco. Still not afraid to rock the house, though, as evident on the galvanized ‘Days in Between’ or the rousing, anthemic ‘Dagger’. References span from Animal Collective to Cate Le Bon to Scott Walker.

This truly enigmatic sound is built from Roelandt’s maverick experimentation with homemade modular synths layered among multi-instrumentalist Vanbergen’s acoustic arrangements. This was also the recipe for last year’s Reinhard & Reinhard. The new element now, of course, is Charlotte’s vocals. But it is an addition that alters the shape, the songs here being more structured and dramatic, built around the enchanting vocals and their wistful and dreamy lyrical motifs.

Italian jazz beat maestro Koralle teamed up with saxophonist/producer Pachakuti for ‘Mandala’. Koralle is a major force on the European beat scene. Since 2019, MPM has released four of his albums (all digital & on LP). Last year he released the much-praised rap project ‘Eat The Kiwi Skin’ with London MC Isatta Sheriff.
