The technical process of this recording was modeled as close as possible to the original techniques of 1920s recording studios.  The band all sat together in one room, each instrument at a different distance from the microphone according to their acoustic characteristics and prominence in the piece.  Only one ribbon microphone was used for the entire recording.  There were no isolation booths, no "overdubbing" or pitch manipulation of any sort, aside from that of the skill of each musician.
