The Man in the Moon

Giant Sunshine is an experimental project that I'm creating with my daughter, Britt. She has always had a melody in her head. Some of my favorite memories are of her walking through our home as a young child singing whatever melody was in her head at the time. I would occasionally allow her to skip school so we could work on new ideas in our home studio. As I mentioned in my bio, I've pretty much destroyed any chance of her having a "normal" life. It's not uncommon for her to leave new melody ideas on my voicemail when I'm unavailable. So, if you see a twenty-something girl standing in a corner somewhere singing into her iPhone, it's probably Britt.  

She forces me to think outside of the box. Britt and I are excited about sharing our sonic discoveries as we move our "Giant Sunshine" project from idea to completion.

Innocent Years

On September 9, 2001 Britt released her first CD consisting of ten original songs. She was fifteen and we had been working on the project for a few years.  Today marks the ten year anniversary of that release!  So, we thought it would be fun to re-release the title track, "Cloud NIne" here on SoundCloud. 

We will re-release a few other tracks from this project over the next few days.    

As with most of the music we do together, I did the music and Britt recorded the vocals.  Our next-door-neighbor, Ben Cawley, contributed the power chords via his Les Paul Custom and tortured Marshall.

Cloud Nine - Britt Garrison / Michael Garrison  (2001)

We enjoyed an imaginary dinner with the masters. Mozart, Beethoven, John Lennon and others gave us advice we'd like to share.  We had pizza...   :)  

Britt did her thing with the vocals while I did the music and helped with some of the lyrics.  It's a song about returning to our creative beginnings.  That special moment that we all crave when inspiration strikes.

Dreamless  --- Britt Garrison / Michael Garrison

I have a friend that spends much of his time traveling the world on business, as many of us must do.  After his daughter was born, it became even more difficult to leave the family behind.  Whenever he would arrive at a new city, he would get stationary and an envelope from his hotel.  He would write a letter to his daughter and seal it with a date.  Returning home, he would add his new letters to hundreds of others in shoe boxes that he keeps hidden.  When she is older, he plans to give them to her. Someday, she will know that she was always in her father's heart. 

"Dear Audrey" is for them, and all of us that must leave family behind.

It amazes me that I can upload new music and within minutes receive encouraging comments from fellow artists thousands of miles away.  What an amazing era we share! 

On May 3, 2011, I was selected as “SoundClouder of the Day.”  Of the millions that make up this creative global community, I’m truly humbled.

I've enjoyed success as a studio player in years past, but I've never sought the spotlight.  It's the creative process that moves me.  My reward comes when a track is finished.  I lean forward into the music.  It's impossible to fall.  The waves of sound simply won't allow it.  That's my moment...  

I’m currently focusing on the project “Giant Sunshine" featuring vocals by my daughter Britt. Cinematic composing is also a current playground along with the occasional POP project.  I enjoy the variety.  I've been considering a commercial release of my songs and cinematic material.  We shall see...
