Starry Night

Let's Dance was commissioned by the University of Alabama School of Music and is scored for horn quartet, piano and percussion. The work is in three movements: I. the rhythm of feet, II. a billion years of sea, III. jitterbug. The title comes from a poem of mine:

let's dance on the cool shore
wet from the gesture of
waves white with sea meringue
gulls watch poised into wind
fish in the clear shallows
listen to the rhythm of feet
splashing and mud slapping
our music is the day's
arc and the sea oat breeze
and in this jitterbug -
a billion years of sea -
we are timeless and free
