The Silverball Market

I'm working on some title music, now that our AI and physics are tried and tested. This should be one of the last things to go before final level design gets up and running, which everyone's looking forward to! This is for the in-progress humorous Metroidvania, "Overclockalypse -- Chronicles of the Flaming Robot", © Michael Eric Oberlin, August 28, 2018; from Frontier Medicine Entertainment.

It loops nicely, but honestly I may end up live-recording some drums or adding some shakers to it. It's a little too redundant for my tastes; and yeah, I know, game music usually only lasts around 20-40 seconds before a loop, and that usually works fine, but I'm just not quite feeling it without some tapping drums. Otherwise it's good, it sounds a little "Mirror's Edge"-like to me.

Overclockalypse -- Chronicles of the Flaming Robot Opening Theme

This was the first winner for in-game music. (© Michael Eric Oberlin, August 2018, of course.) I decided to call it "Fire Catcher" on account of the general theme; I hugged the cello and piano and tried not to deviate from acoustics (and arguable acoustics) too much, as it's meant to be a gentle intro.

Fire Catcher

It took me like a month, and at least a half dozen separate tries, to come up with something I was content with. I wanted something bouncy and pleasant, but not in such a way that you wouldn't recognize that there was a problem to be solved. (Not going nuclear, in a few words.)I had to steer it away from turning into some kind of trap, as that really isn't the genre I was going for; but the glitching, multiple instances of vocoding, and that casual-but-real drum line kind of made it.
