The finale is a high-energy collision of worlds. We start with the driving strings and distinct textures of Vivaldi, building momentum until the piece transforms into the jazz-inflected harmonies and rhythms of Gershwin. It features big orchestration and technical piano work, bringing the concerto to a fitting, exuberant close. Hydra Sunrise (ii) is a call to song, from Helios to the birds. As the god paints the sky in shimmering gold...a feat Tetsis had the power to summon...texture is woven from complex string divisions in B-flat Major, the only key capable of depicting such primal light for reasons I do not claim to understand.

The piano may neither be seen nor heard. It has no right to speak, being a secular instrument...too deeply rooted in human hope and aspiration to interrupt Helios. Only the most powerful section of the orchestra (the Strings) may speak of the Sun at daybreak, calling the birds to song, as church bells summon people to prayer.
