"This project is both personal and creative: Emily was a first cousin of my great-grandmother, and while I grew up hearing stories about her, I didn’t deeply engage with her writing until more recently. Living just a few hours from Amherst, I began writing and producing music inspired by her poems in the wake of the pandemic. Letting her language shape the emotional and musical structure of each piece opened up new creative directions for me - especially as a songwriter typically working in more conventional forms."
