Tuesday’s gone but it sure don’t feel like Wednesday,
In late afternoon, it sure don’t feel like Day,
But come that morning sun and all it’s glory,

I’m on a one-way street and I’m going in the wrong direction,
But don’t you tell me this isn’t the way to go home.

“Empty Eyes”

I had a dream about a day when I was feeling dead inside,
And when I woke up it was true. 
Though my life isn’t anything to shame, 
It seems to me it’s all been pain.  
I’m lost in thought and I don’t know what to think,
Somethings missing in my life.  
So I walk around with my head up in the clouds, and it’s empty in my eyes.  

Everyday it seems like nothing can go right,
And I start to wonder what went wrong. 
And when I start to feel like I am all alone,
Another person walks away.

It feels like evening in the afternoon...
I feel my eyes getting tired.

It’s been eleven years, if it’s been one day.
There’s been a lot of tears, I’m not afraid to say. 
And every day since you left me there I’ve been on a mission from god to break free I swear.

Two steps over and one step back,
Backed in the corner of a one room shack,
Having a good time...having a real good time. 
Just goes to show you it don’t take much to find pleasure in the place of pain...Lighten Up

So Friday’s come and you’ve had a drink,
And now’s the time when you stop and think,
Of the good times, of all the real good times. 
And when you think that it’s been so long,
And that things will never be the same,

Just goes to show you it don’t take much to find pleasure in the place of despair...

“Pockets Full Of Sand”

My telephone is ringing,
but I don’t pick up the phone.
My clean cloths are all dirty again.
And I’ve learned that when leaving, 
well enough, alone,
That it’s best if you fill your pockets full of sand. 

It’s easier to see with both eyes open,
And everyone gets colder when it rains. 
But time and time again I get so jaded,
And I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.  

My glass is half empty, 
And the moon, it feels so full. 
The time between, the time’s so long. 
I’ve taken for granted, When time was better spent,
And that’s when I’m grateful for pockets full of sand. 

Everyone gets colder in the rain,
But we always see the softer side again,
And when you think you’ve reached the calm before the storm,
That’s when you should fill your pockets full of sand. 

It’s easier to see with eyes open,

Pockets Full of Sand

New original: Recorded in one track and in a single take on my iPhone 6 Plus using the built in mic.

I’ve spent the last few weeks since my 40th birthday doing a great deal of introspection and self reflection. 40th birthdays have a tendency to do that to a person, and for me, now, it felt especially necessary.  Obviously a lot of emotions came with that reflection.. not good or bad....just emotions. And as I’ve learned to do....I chose to use that pain...and sense of hope....to write a new song.  Appropriately titled “Reflections”.

Have you ever stopped and wondered....is this all or is there more we just can’t see. 
Have you ever stopped to ponder..if there’s someplace else that you’re supposed to be. 

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself these questions... or maybe that’s  just me. 

But it’s there in my reflection where I learn something I otherwise won’t see.

Fumbling through the pages of my ever growing book of memories,
These photographs like mirrors leave me wondering what I was meant to be. 

I often search for answers to these questions I’ll just sit and wonder why. 

When faced with my hypocrisies and past misdeeds I’ve tried to justify. 

And now before me stands a man, reflected, 
I can barely recognize. 

With old scars from  forgotten wars and melodies like cryptic lullabies.

I’m sifting through the ashes of these feelings we were never meant to feel. 
But these scars are just experience, 
And I’m grateful for the lessons they reveal.

We’ll have to wait and see.
