12. Soul So Sexy (Old School Edition) - Michael Wheatley & The Dirty Carpet Disco Band

This little disco ditty was written around 2014/5(?) with my “other brother” Serg the bass player from just about every band I’ve ever been in! On drums and timbalitos it also features my little brother Jonny Wheatley. Serg and I wrote and recorded this tune one day for a completely different project which didn't get to completion.

I put it in this album for a couple of reasons. One, it’s a disco song and about being out and dancing on a crowded dance floor and the feeling of ecstasy you get when your favourite song is on and you connect with someone beautiful across the floor and how, right now as I write this mid pandemic, maybe something that may not ever happen again, at least in the way we remember.

Two, so much synth and funk!!!! I had originally planned to have a horn section come in and play the big section stuff at the end of the song but I ended up leaving the parts as synths instead. I was at the time just writing my Prince tribute show and listening to a lot of his earlier stuff and how he replaced horns with synths.

Just clear some space around you and press play on this sucker. You're welcome.

From underground funk rock in Kings Cross in the nineties to touring nationally with his own fringe shows it has been, for Michael, a very long way to the shop to get his sausage roll. Along that road though he has moved many a soul with his passion, unique sound and prolific songwriting. He's the kind of artist who you're lucky to know about and will always remember once you do.
