...In November 2012 I ended up in a place called New Hope in Weymouth MA. I would stay there for about 3 months and wrote a lot of songs with my new found friend Billy Murphy (Charlestown,Mass)and recorded them all onto my soundcloud.com/skinnycavallo site. I wrote Fixing a Broken Mind to a “Mac Miller” instrumental called “The Best Day Ever” (Mac Miller would die years later from an opioid overdose). This song was a timeline of my life from the age of 12 when I joined my first band to the present moment. To this day this is one of the rawest, most real, most accurate songs I've ever written or ever heard for that matter, describing the life of a drug addict. This song has taken on a lot of forms over the years and it is definitely the most asked about and commented on song when I perform in treatment centers. Like “Take a Breath”, I used one of Ryini’s beats recently to reconfigure how I deliver the song and gave it a part melodic, part rap feel which my producer and friend (who I met from Rich Cronin and my old manager Melissa Budetti back when I was signed to Rich's label) Dave Caggiano masterfully captured in September of 2020 and looking forward to it being on this documentary and shared with the world because even though I didn’t maintain longterm sobriety after writing this song, it captured my life in a nutshell and has helped remind me that my mind can break but my Soul is always alive, there needs to be a balance of what I'm feeding both.

Michael Cavallo grew up just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. After injuries cut short his senior year as a college hockey player, Michael pursued a career in the music business. Throughout his 15-year career, he struggled with addiction, narrowly escaping death a few times. In 2016, Michael went to treatment in New Jersey and has remained sober since. Dedicating his life to helping others who struggle with the disease of addiction, in December 2017, he became a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist. In 2018, Michael won the Knock Out Opioid Abuse Songwriting Contest. Using his Artistry to make a difference and inviting us all to "Take a Stand Together", he performs his winning song and shares his story at many community recovery events. Michael speaks and performs original songs at schools and various community outreach programs in the hopes of preventing others from succumbing to this deadly disease. Michael understands the struggle of addiction, and the power of recovery.
