Microphone Preamp Comparison  

I used two Shure SM57's to mic my Fender guitar amp.  Mic 1 went into the Apogee Duet's preamp and Mic 2 was sent to the LA-610 MK11 preamp.  The guitar playing is me noodling around for a few seconds.  Both mics were recorded at the same time.  No editing or manipulation was done to the tracks besides rendering them into mp3's.

I tried my best to keep the gain equal.  I did add a little compression on Samples 2 and 3 to demonstrate the sound of the compressor in this box.  It seems to smooth the high's and brings the sound forward.  I didn't want to use heavy compression, since I normally wouldn't track with it.  

I hope these samples help anyone interested in the sound of the LA-610 MKII.  I mainly use it on vocals and will try to add a few other instrument/vocal samples in the future.  Overall, I've enjoyed discovering the sonic palette it offers and feel that it's a musical instrument in it's own right.
