Day 7 Prompt: Transcontinental Railroad

The first transcontinental railroad, which connected the East Coast to the Pacific Coast via railway, was completed in 1869.  It was built by three separate companies and heavily subsidized by the federal and state governments.  When it was finished, they commemorated by using a golden railway spike as the last spike on the route and hammered it in place with a silver hammer.  The way to the west was opened to many, and the country would never be the same.

There's your little history lesson.  You can go with that all, or you can just write some fun train music.  Choo-choo.
