5 or 6 years ago, I heard this song. I remember I wasn’t in a happy place but this song gave me Hope. Specifically this cover. 5 years later, I’m back here for that hope 🖤

Never was much of a fan of Justin Vernon's falsetto singing voice but he writes some great songs. Presenting my own interpretation.
The meaning behind the lyrics.....
"The lyrics of “Michicant” are some of the most cryptic and elusive in Bon Iver’s catalog. The song opens with the lines: “I was unafraid, I was a boy, I was a tender age.” This sets the stage for a nostalgic and reflective tone that pervades the rest of the song. The narrator goes on to describe a time in his life when he was happy and carefree, but suggests that this innocence was temporary and ultimately lost.
As the song progresses, the lyrics become more abstract and difficult to parse. The chorus contains the lines: “Oh Michicant, my Michigan lake, I’d hold to you just to hear you say, Eeee-yip.” This phrase has been the subject of much speculation, with some fans suggesting that it’s a reference to a Native American language or a spiritual chant. Others have speculated that it’s simply a nonsensical phrase that complements the dreamlike atmosphere of the song.
In the final verse, the narrator seems to be addressing a loved one, telling them that he will always hold onto their memory even as he grows older and experiences the pain and disappointment of life.
