So this is my debut on here I guess. This song was made, recorded, (barely) edited, and posted today using Cubase 5. Headspace is a love affair between a man, a woman, and his guitar; most of all, it is the most accurate glimpse into my head. Fusing aspects of blues, jazz, and funk, it is a complete musical experience in itself. This tune was composed in early 2017. It went a long way and evolved over time, playing around with different rhythmic and melodic aspects, as well as trying to combine some very fun ideas for the lyrics. I had to play this song in different live environments and play around with what I liked before I could finally decide on what version I wanted to record. You can hear a lot of my influences in the song, like SRV and Hendrix, along with Joe Henderson in the jazz section. The final 2 minutes of the song welcome you all to my headspace, the constant flux of musical ideas all mashed into one. I will wait is a little tune I wrote and recorded at Hope College in 2019. It was a journey through myself and my own music - a reflection of the existential crisis that I face on a day to day. What am I waiting for? It feels like things push me and pull me in different ways, but I realized that its my life. Only I can make it happen. There are things in our control and things out of our control. Quite a paradox; if we sit and wait for something to happen, nothing will.

This is a letter that you’ll never read 
Because a coward took away your human right to breathe 
Felt the knots in my stomach hearing you beg, took me 7 minutes to realize any progress is dead
You were accused of forgery
The only crime committed was your skin tone
And now your final words are played as America’s ringtone 
Now justice must be done, a sentence must be in order for the murderous cops the killed you in the streets of Minnesota 
It wasn’t just the man who put his knee to your neck, the ones that let it happen are just as guilty as the rest 
Now it’s hard to believe that two were put on paid administrative leave, a slap on the wrist at best as investigations proceed
They call it qualified immunity
This man had 12 complaints against him
What qualifies the excusal of institutional racism?

The schools, the jobs, the news is bought 
The president and congressman have all been taught

Black is a threat 
Brown is a threat
Latinos illegal 
The Chinese are evil
The story ain’t over but there’s no sequel
And of course I’m glad to see you all stand up
But where is that energy when your neighbor beaten and handcuffed 
Where is the activism in the classrooms and the workplace, the ball games and the birthdays, in households and in churches. 
Every day that you stay silent 
Is a day the system won
Back to you, sir, at the scene at the crime 

Now the protests turned to burning 
The mourning turned to hurting 
Vandalism and looting don’t have a place in this yearning 
We’ve come to the realization humanity isn’t learning but these broken institutions’ bloody cogs just keep on churning 
So what? 

Speak your mind, all the time.
Floyd didn’t have to die to take the actions you all post and fight against these unjust crimes, same story different day
But hey, imma leave it to you to make up your mind.

Darryl Davis once said when two enemies are talking, they are not fighting, they are talking. It is when the talking ceases that the ground becomes fertile for violence. 

Keep the conversation going. 
Rest In Peace George Floyd and any other human being that has lost their life to injustice. Take action. The time is now.
