The Great British Hope

In 1994, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant took the rehearsal room next to ours in The Depot, King's Cross, London to rehearse their album 'No Quarter'. Despite the fantastic soundproofing of this studio, there was always a bit of bleed - especially into adjacent rooms so it was easy for us to hear them and vice versa.

In any case, Led Zeppelin had had such a profound influence on Stonebird's sound (listen to 'The Great British Hope', for example) that we were almost afraid to play our stuff when they were next door, for fear of being sued! Eventually they heard us and a very convivial atmosphere developed between Page, Plant and the five members of Stonebird. So we wrote 'Merlin and the Moodchild' about them getting back together to work on an album. We never told them, but I'm sure they twigged it from the lyrics.
