A modern day love story might go as follows: Lukas and Jonathan, two brothers running Berlin-based label Kommerz Records, started connecting with their favorite new jazz combo Triorität via IG without any business in mind, just to find out that they grew up in the same place – often overlooked, but damn cute city of Darmstadt. 
So why not just meet up during winter holidays in their parent’s garden (social distancing was still a thing in winter 2020) to sit around a fireplace and drink wine from daddy’s stack? A perfect start for a new friendship.

Noa Erni’s extraordinary debut “The Mental Traveller” hadn’t been released at that time, but the trinity of Triorität was immediately caught by Noa’s unpretentious chord play and the idea was born to create some live interpretations of his compositions. The Swiss-born producer and wine merchant (meet him at Friedenauer Weinhandlung) produced his obscure jazz and hip-hop atmospheres as a one man band hidden away in his home studio in Berlin. Childhood friends Triorität, on the contrary, developed their “dancefloor jazz” on stage and in the rehearsal room, finessing their very own melange of 70s fusion, disco as well as modern electronics and hip-hop. With their 2020 masterpiece “ALG0” they perfectly captured the stage powerplay on a 12” record, awarded with a co-sign by Gilles Peterson.

Fast forward into 2021: Ouvo Records, the imprint run by Triorität and DJ Ion, and Kommerz Records are best label buddies and their collaboration “The Mental Traveller - Triorität Session” came to life. Three songs of Noa Erni revisited by Triorität’s Alexander Hoffmann (drums), Gerrit Ebeling (keys) and Grégoire Pignède (bass) in their very own jazz fusion madness. Recorded in summer 2021 at Il Civetto studios in Berlin-Lichtenberg by Christ Hentz a.k.a. Hentzup and mastered by Mark Pfurtscheller, the full EP will be available on all digital platforms November 19th alongside a live video of the session.

Conclave’s self-titled debut has been hailed as one of 2021’s best, described as “magnificent” by Resident Advisor, “a vibrant house album that beautifully celebrates rhythms, collaboration and musical history.” The brainchild of New York City-based vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Cesar Toribio, it is that rarity in dance music: a conceptual project that never lets ideation (specifically, a celebration of the Afro-Latin clave rhythm as a transcendent musical key) impede its primary motive of putting bodies in motion.

Now with Conclave – The Remixes EP, four of Conclave’s finest tracks are imaginatively re-invented across five remixes by Photay, musclecars, Jenifa Mayanja and Mike Simonetti. The resulting sounds represent an extended play in the truest sense: a continuation of the spirit of Toribio’s explorations that adventurously takes the original compositions into welcome and unexpected territory.

Photay’s “All That I Need (Remix)” brilliantly sets the tone. Anchored by an irresistibly syncopated percussive line, it accumulates perfectly placed rhythmic layers and accents, then drops in Cesar and sister Sharin Toribio’s sparse vocals amidst touches of haunting modulating organ and Bernie Worrell-esque synth squeals, all while largely dispensing with traditional basslines. It’s an intoxicatingly moody (re-)arrangement, reflective of Photay’s uncanny ability to generate momentum and evoke stillness at once. And it’s reprised in a more stripped down iteration for his lovely Photay Lullaby Remix, which dials back the percussion and plays up a simple thumb piano melody from the song’s beautifully bridge for maximum emotional resonance.

Together these re-imaginations accomplish what every remix project ideally aspires to: present the songs in exciting new contexts while reaffirming one’s appreciation for the original material. Listen, relax, and stay a while longer.

We are excited to share an exclusive slice of modern funk by Grammy-nominated Canadian keys player and producer, Jonny Tobin. "What I Didn't Do" is taken from his forthcoming album 'Together', expected in January 2022.

After releasing the full-length 'Weekends' in 2020 (via Wicked Wax in Amsterdam), and a string of singles, collaborative projects, and EPs in 2021, Jonny Tobin is due to release another full-length solo album, 'Together'. to kick off 2022. Facing isolation and loneliness (as many people in the world did throughout 2020), the album is a collection of tracks that Jonny made to channel negative feelings into something hopeful and forward-looking.

On “What I Didn’t Do”, Jonny features a clip from friend and fellow musician William Chernoff speaking about unrealized potential and some of the negative self-talk that can hold people back.

'Together' represents Jonny’s response to all the tragedy, despair, and grief of the past 2 years - holding space for those emotions but also seeking to provide glimmers of optimism with an almost playful delight, as the compositions encapsulate his bright outlook on the world.

The album consists out of 10 tracks with different styles in music, but all with a coherent mellow vibe to it.

The label stands for diversity within underground music. For our new release we have invited 8 producers (1 duo) with different styles to do a remix for the album and we could not be more happy with the outcome!

Dutch artist and composer Andert Tysma come out from behind the shadows to release his debut album on Apollo Records this autumn. The seasoned musician has toured the world performing bass and piano with several artists and bands, and on ‘Children Of Trinoom’, Tysma fully immerses himself in a solo offering of breathtaking quality.

Recorded primarily in Atlas Studios on the outskirts of Berlin and engineered and mixed by the award winning Robin Hunt, who constructed a unique recording space in a repurposed GDR metal foundry, the long player brings together eight emotive and tender compositions showcasing the refreshing neo-classic style that Tysma has made his own.

A visit to Nashville, Tennessee and a love of country music led to the incorporation of the pedal steel guitar into Tysma’s music, played beautifully by David Gram on two tracks here. ‘Children Of Trinoom’ continues to take influence from everyday situations and decisions, as well as from the world of art, music and literature. The album is, in part, inspired by the Dutch jazz conductor, pianist, trumpeter and latterly (like Tysma himself), a doctor, Boy Edgar.

The entirely instrumental suite of compositions tells an abstract autobiographical story in eight diverging tracks, investigating the juxtaposition of a disparate world, an essential theme for Tysma.
