I was born in Brooklyn the year of 1960 lived in Queens village for a while just before the beginning of hip-hop Davy DMX lived on my Block. He was a bass player guitar player basically played all the instruments. He taught me how to play base at the beginning, then all the bands in Queen’s area Started to get into hip-hop took the speakers from the band got turntables and mixer and Davy DMX was the first one on my block with all the equipment. He taught me to play bass guitar then I follow along wanting to be a DJ and he hit me off with the basics of DJing Had to leave Queens Village. My next destination was Atlanta Georgia when I got to Atlanta Georgia no one heard rap in my family until I got there trying to scratch records on my aunt Stereo. They didn’t understand what I was doing. Then this was in the early 80s and there was a hangout place called underground Atlanta. I used to go there on the weekends to hang out and party. Most of the DJs were playing on R&B jams party wrecks but no rap and it was playing good times like chic and bounce road skate so every time the DJ would play one of these records I will go to the booth and ask the DJ yo man let me get on the mic never would let me get on the mic. I tried for months until one day he gave me the mic and he was playing good times I started rapping rhymes that I heard throughout New York City and the owner was amazed how I got the crowd to respond. He asked me to come back next week. I said no problem but I’m really a DJ. I’m not a rapper and he said oh yeah he said come back next week anyway I’m gonna put you on and see what you could do. That’s how I got my first DJ gig in Atlanta Georgia And from there it was nonstop and Steele doing it till this day. Love it and I still played bass I have drums guitars and keyboards in my house today following my main man Davy DMX had all of his stuff in his basement in Queens so do you have it? That’s how I got started.
