The French city of Montpellier has long possessed an obsession with all things electronic music. At the forefront of this scene is Yamen & EDA.
Friends since childhood, the pair possess an almost telepathic understanding behind the decks and in the studio, a way of working that’s brought them to the attention of some of contemporary house and techno’s most renowned imprints and dancefloors.

Having officially kicked off as a duo in 2011, Yamen & EDA’s ascendency has been an impressive one. Theirs is a story however, that goes much further back. Raised on a solid musical diet of minimal house and techno, the pair’s formative years were spent on the many dancefloors of the south of France, experiences that still inspire their music to this very day.

Best friends and ardent musical lovers with a penchant for similar styles and techniques, it was only ever a matter of time before Yamen & EDA solidified their friendship through music. Quickly getting down to business in the studio, their inaugural releases hinted at great promise, eventually bringing them to the attention of One Records boss, Adam Shelton. Always keen to foster fledgling talent, Shelton has signed numerous Yamen & EDA releases to his imprint and even had the boys join him at One Records showcases in London at fabric, Sonar in Barcelona and at Below in Birmingham.

The relationship is one that’s since brought the pair to the attention of numerous other labels, with Earlydub and LAATE among those who’ve housed their talents. What’s more, their music has been played along the way by some of the scene’s foremost players, with Raresh, Petre Inspirescu and Apollonia all lending their support. 

2018, however, is the year that Yamen & EDA are set to go it alone courtesy of their own Maison Mere label. A vinyl-only affair that kicked off recently courtesy of the auspicious ‘Retrospect’ EP, the label promises to promote a wide range of contrasting electronic sounds. “A platform to collect and release music without any limits”, it’s indicative of an altogether exciting new chapter in the already emphatic careers of Yamen & EDA. With further releases to come on John Dimas’ always on-point Elephant Moon label as well as a return to One Records in the works, 2018 already looks set to be a defining year for one of France’s most exciting duos.

After a sabbatical at the beginning of the year, today we begin our season on Podcasts. Our guest comes from Romania. An excellent curator at his record label and also with historic performances at festivals such as Sunwaves Festival.

One of the most respected DJs in his country, he has been spreading the Romanian music scene around the world for a long time. With stints at record labels such as his own, Atipic Records, Arpiar, RORA and many others.

He masterfully gave us two presentations at this year's Brazilian carnival.

This mix was recorded live at D-EDGE in Sao Paulo.

Michael Sowbug from Karlsruhe in South Germany, born in 1987, was really impressed by the music of the Golden Era of Hip Hop. He started early to follow up artists such as Dr. DRE, Snoop Doggy Dogg and Wu Tang Clan and Michael cites these artists as the inspiration to take up the turntables himself. The foundation of his musical career was laid. Already at the age of 12 he spun his first records for hours and recorded live sets, which were sold in the local record store.

Having a background of turntablism and fast creative mixing from the hip hop time, he moved on to electronic music at the age of 18 years. He still plays Vinyl today. The fascination as a DJ to make several thousand people happy and smile with music, motivated Michael to start his own music productions. The year 2012 began with his debut track "Proof" on Connaisseur Recordings, followed later by more releases on smaller labels. Michael attaches great importance to worldwide contact to other artists. He believes this provides the opportunity to collaborate and the chance to exchange some awesome underground sounds – and then play them in his sets. His track "Base Patada" was remixed by David Gtronic, Onno and realeased on Serkal. Another honor for him was to release on AMA Recordings with his friend Nicke. It has always been his aim to release on vinyl and it finally is reality. His dream comes true ...
