Sudbeat 046 features Australian producer Steve May who's been making music and DJ-ing for many years, gaining DJ support on his productions from Sasha, John Digweed, Carl Cox and Hernan Cattaneo (who used Open Day on his Renaissance Masters Mix). 
The track Open Day itself is a punchy solid gem, melodic yet moody in its melancholic vibe, that meanders and builds to a tinkly keyed smile inducing moment and has been a staple of Mr Cattaneo's sets for ages, so seemed so right to release this! 
On remix duties its to Argentina and Criss Deeper who has released music on 3rd Avenue and Stripped and has received radio pays from Hernan Cattaneo. 
Criss' remix is a darker hypnotic phat grooved wonder that chugs along while the wondrous melodics add light. 
Also including is a very cool downtempo version from Steve May that oozes warmth and gives instant visions of beaches in Ibiza...

Now lot of people don’t like Mondays and we think that’s fair enough; going back to work feeling a decade older after a heavy weekend spent making memories with friends can be a chore for even for the most optimistic of us as we trudge back in to the daily grind. Fear not this week though as our favourite type of Monday, Acid Mondays are on hand to help stave off those post weekend blues today with the exclusive premiering of their new Wolfgang Haffner remix for Rockets & Ponies.

With it’s HQ in rural Germany Rockets & Ponies has long bucked the trend by providing a coterie for the outsiders ­ those deemed  ‘too strange for the normal business’ (which considering the amount of labels based in uber liberal Berlin is quite a statement) with an ethos that fosters freedom of  expression, experimentation and an avant­garde approach. So who better to present a remix package of works by Jazz luminary Wolfgang Haffner that includes Ricardo Villalobos & Max Loderbauer, Nightmares on Wax, Acid Mondays and label founder Timo Maas. 

When approaching Wolfgang Haffner’s output ‘prolific’ doesn’t quite seem to cover it. With a career that spans over 30 years beginning in the German and French Jazz Ensemble and moving on to collaborative works with the likes of Chaka Khan, Bill Evans and Roy Ayres, Haffner has appeared on over 350 recordings.  The selected material within this package is taken from his latest album ‘Heart Of The Matter’ released through The ACT Company in 2013 ­ ‘Melodia’, ‘Luna’ and ‘Bing’ are twisted, stretched and reformed by the eminently prestigious roster of remixers. 

For us the pick of the bunch was DT favorites Acid Monday’s alternative take on ‘Bing’ and we knew from first listen that this was a release we needed to secure for the hallowed pages of DT.

Fernando Olaya hailing from Columbia has more than 10 years of experience as a dj/producer. He already worked with records labels like Parquet Recordings, Natura Viva, System Recordings, Liquid Groove, Sonnet Speciale, and the list is still growing nowdays. Fernando has been featured more than five times in the top 100 of beatport and he landed twice in the top 10 of techno and progressive section. Fernando debuted at Stelalr Fountain on Robert R Hardy's 'Horizon' EP with an impressive rework. This time he proves where special harmonies comes from on the Alquimsta EP, where two of his latest studio product 'Alquimista' and 'Florida' can be found alongside with remixes on Alquimista from Li-Polymer and Andres W. The original of 'Alquimista' is a nice deep/tech crossover, with some pace and mellow in the right portion. Li-Polymer's version can be labeled as an intelligent, space flavoured deep house reload, with some laidback elements. Andres W operates with a long drum intro, which makes his version dj friendly and easy fit in every dj set. His deep attitude merged with the fluffy synth lines from the original tune, and the combination find the way to our ears quickly.  Florida on the "B-side"reminds us of a late summer walk on the shore with the shiny, optimistic edge of the main riffs.
