ya like jazz? pt 2

Coco Bryce (@cocobrycebeats) is a veteran of the drum & bass scene, but also one of its most cutting-edge artists. The Breda-born DJ and producer is a master of intricate drum patterns and superbly warm and emotive pads. His silky, soulful sounds some with deft vocals and proper piano riffs that are always on the more minimal end of the spectrum, but still make a lasting impact. Next to his own Myor label, he has landed on the likes of Critical Recordings, Lobster Theremin and Fresh 86, and in 2022 alone he has put out at least six different EPs. 

True to his prolific form, this week's mix is packed with his own exclusive and unreleased tunes as well as gems from Paradox, Denham Audio and DJ H. It adds up to an absorbing hour of stylish and stripped-back rhythms that both float in the cosmos and root you to the dance floor. Lush chords and subtle waves of euphoria permeate the whole mix and make it as emotionally touching as it is physically moving.

Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word that describes a mood of being cozy and content with the simple things of life.  I whipped this set together impulsively on a frosty Saturday morning. Channeling the feeling of a cozy coffee shop on a rainy night, or a warm meal on a cold night. 

Lots of chilled out drum and bass, jazzy and Motown elements  come together in this set. I'm happy with how this came out as it was entirely unplanned, which in my humble opinion is the most enjoyable way to play.  Lean into what feels good and see what happens.

The KLF were a British acid house band of the late 1980s and early 1990s.  Eternity is a recurring theme in song titles ("3 a.m. Eternal", "Madrugada Eterna") hence the title of this mix. Following the February 1990 release of Chill Out, sheep had recurring roles in the duo's output until their 1992 retirement. Drummond has claimed that the use of sheep on the Chill Out cover was intended to evoke contemporary rural raves and the cover of the Pink Floyd album Atom Heart Mother. Drummond and Cauty's work often involved notions of ceremony and journey. Journeys are the subject of the KLF Communications recordings Chill Out, Space, "Last Train to Trancentral", and also Adventures beyond the Ultraworld. 

The Chill Out album depicts a journey across the U.S. Gulf Coast. I took that approach in making this tribute mix. Some British friends suggested I make this mix but in the beginning, I had no idea what to do, and more importantly how to do it. Most of what you’ll hear on the mix, is random and improvised. I only used one track from Chill out, most of the material is bootlegs, fan mixes, remix projects by fans and DJ's, samples used by KLF, remixes, moon landings, all accompanied by the movie The Rites Of Mu (Narrated By Martin Sheen). I hope it will be a rewarding voyage to you! At 3 a.m. eternal or eternal down (Madrugada eterna)… ? ? ? 

 "Madrugada Eterna" is Spanish for "Eternal Dawn".
