THEORETICAL emerges from the Neuropunk Forge!

Since Anton Ermolaev and Dmitry Saksin created the Theoretical project back in 2014, their  production efforts have earned them regular releases on labels like CitateForms, Liquid Flavors and Liquid Brilliants and many more. As you can tell from all the Liquid label names, they have a lot of experience in creating funky rhythms and beautiful melodies to the tune of 174bpm. Regular listeners of Liquor, the more liquid and deep DnB focused sister podcast of Neuropunk, might recognize the name, as they have been a regular part of the tracklists ever since the very first Liquor episode in 2016. Not only that, they have seen consistent radio support by Bassdrive Crew, Luch, Debri, Pirate Station, Dj K and Random Movement! While Theoretical are well versed in Liquid arrangements, there's also a darker and deeper side to their productions. They have always tried out new sounds, but especially in recent times they have focused more and more on venturing into the deeper ends of the genre. All of which now culminated into their newest double single,  CUTTLEFISH / THE FINDER, straight out of the Neuropunk Forge!

Let me tell you about the horrors of the CUTTLEFISH and THE FINDER. A long time ago, an aspiring oceanographer came to our town to study our local deep sea wildlife. One fateful day, on a quite rough day at sea, he went on a particularly deep dive near our town. He was mapping out the deep coral reefs as usual, as he noticed that one of the bigger reefs had... moved? As soon as he realised it, two tentacles shot towards him, only narrowly missing him. The man immediately swam away from the source, which as he looked back, had begun transforming into a big Cuttlefish-like creature. Before he could make out more about it, it vanished into a mist of darkness. Panicked, he told us all about it and we all agreed it was too dangerous to be kept alive. We hired the best hunter we knew: THE FINDER. Though retired, he agreed to help us. Once we knew he was on the case, we felt safer again. We sadly celebrated prematurely. After a few months, we checked back on him and he was unrecognisable. He simply kept muttering "I will find you and I will kill you" again and again. It was like he was hypnotised, there was no way to snap him out of it. The hunt had consumed him.

Legend's say the Cuttlefish is still out there, lurking in the shadows.

FOCUSFIRE stir up the fire of the Neuropunk Forge!

Even though the Focusfire project has only been created in 2020, there is some serious experience behind it. Focusfire combines the explosive forces of Deen Pride, most commonly known for his work as the label owner of the Moscow-based Ignescent, and Fascad, the versatile and experienced producer from Asbest. Named after the 2019 Fascad track of the same name, Focusfire have taken the sound of its namesake and amplified its power tenfold. Their production ranges from deep tech-focused rollers to massive earth-shattering bass massacres and has earned them releases on RAM sister label ProgRAM and multiple RAM Rave compilations. Not only have they seen success with big labels, in 2020 they also launched their very own label Focusfire Music for all things Focusfire. With support by the likes of Grafix, Raiser and Noisia Radio, it's safe to say Focusfire have made a great first impression. Now it's time to showcase their talents to the world once more with their debut double single on Neuropunk, RUSTLE / NO WASTING, emerging from the Neuropunk  Forge!

Alright, gather around, it's time for a scary campfire story!

A few years ago, a group of teenagers decided to let loose from all the stress of school and life in  general by going camping in these very same woods we are now gathered at. Without a care in the world, they were blaring their music and throwing their bottles in bushes left and right, ignoring both street and warning signs. Once at their campsite, they started hearing faint RUSTLEs in the bushes, but thought nothing of it. It's a forest, after all. However, with every disposed drink, with every food packaging thrown out, the rustling became louder and more erratic.

At some point it overpowered the music and the group got curious. They noticed that the paths to the campsite they had so destructively created were gone. In fact, they couldn't even see more than a few meters, the forest was just too dense. They tried to cut their way out, but they couldn't get through the branches. Not just that, with every cut the trees seemed to get closer. They weren't just blocking the way out, they were closing in faster and faster! Before they realised what was  happening, the group was swallowed whole by the forest.

All of this could have been prevented if they had only listened to the NO WASTING signs along the way.

JOE FORD steps up first to add his spin to MIZO’s sinister MECHANICAL PAW, wherein he wastes no time in unleashing an unending torrent of lashing low end frequencies that send the already furious track into an expertly overdriven frenzy. Next comes LEVELA’s remix of GYDRA & TEDDY KILLERZ’ track MILES HIGH from the label’s standout first release. Playing up the tracks funk fueled flow, the stripped back swagger of LEVELA’s signature style shines through to create a deviously dirty down low groove driven by the original’s unmistakeable vocal sample. The fires of the NEUROPUNK FORGE alight once more with the arrival of the WARHEAD EP, the latest release from rising Russian duo DESPERSION on NEUROPUNK RECORDS. Established in 2017, the duo have seen previous releases on a variety of labels including Ignescent, 0101 and Kill Tomorrow, within which they have displayed their development of a style that blends complex melodic motifs with aggressive percussive and bassline sequences for a synthesis formed of these two often disparate sounds. Now making their NEUROPUNK RECORDS debut, DESPERSION deliver four tracks in this signature style to create the latest set of auditory weapons straight from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.

Opened by the minor chords and arpeggios of the title track of the same name, the WARHEAD EP quickly erupts with low end weight leavened by the interspersion of melodic reprisals of its opening theme. The deceptively named PEACE which follows provides a slice of scathing neurofunk marked by the tonalities of the distorted hornlike synth that blasts above its rapidly moving bassline. OFFENSIVE next delivers an explosive barrage of transient percussive impacts that fall with perfectly planned precision amongst the tracks chaotic upper atmosphere. Closing the EP is I NEED YOU NOW, which departs from the hard charging energy of its predecessors to deliver a flowing vocal cut emblematic of DESPERSION’s melodic abilities.

With the WARHEAD EP, DESPERSION deliver a dynamic debut on NEUROPUNK RECORDS, showing a deft ability to craft beautiful melodic sequences and works of utmost sonic aggression in equal measure, marking themselves as a duo to watch as they emerge from the NEUROPUNK FORGE.

TEDDY KILLERZ return to NEUROPUNK RECORDS for the label’s ninth EP, aptly named “PANIC ATTACK”. Cofounders of the NEUROPUNK label alongside GYDRA, the TEDDY KILLERZ need little introduction other than the sound of their distinctly horror tinged productions, which has found its home on many of Drum & Bass’ largest labels including RAM, Eatbrain, Blackout, and more. Perhaps more than any other however, NEUROPUNK RECORDS provides a natural habitat for this terrifying ursine trio, a theory supported by PANIC ATTACK’s four ferocious tracks.

Beginning with the anxious chords of its title track, PANIC ATTACK bellows a discordant bassline roar set to signal the start of its sonic hunt supported by precise percussion and spiraling synth patterns.The initial jest of CAN’T STOP ME follows with a percussive pattern that merges funk focused levity with the power of the former’s roar, resulting in a track that moves with unexpected ease despite the weight of its mighty low end. AUGMENTATION’s electric saw synths are unmistakably imbued with the TEDDY KILLERZ prowess for the titular augmentation of their sonics, and lead into the EP’s most technically minded sonic torrent featuring a multitude of warped sounds. Closing the EP is the cinematically toned SHINE, which features a set of bright pads and mysterious vocals overlaid in harmonious interplay prior to their destruction at the hands of a uniquely distorted lead that flows atop a smoothly drifting bassline.

Displaying the full breadth of their sound for NEUROPUNK RECORDS, TEDDY KILLERZ’ PANIC ATTACK performs to the pinnacle of the trio’s talents, from the hyperenergetic neurofunk of PANIC ATTACK to the tech focused AUGMENTATION and the more emotive SHINE. Across all four tracks the TEDDY KILLERZ devotion to malign sonics holds true, promoting them further as the undisputed masters of their sinister sound.

NAIS returns to NEUROPUNK RECORDS with his LET’S ROCK EP, the latest in an explosive series of releases across the neurofunk scene’s top labels including Eatbrain, Bad Taste, and a prior release on NEUROPUNK RECORDS with his EP “Dirty Bounce”. A diverse display of NAIS’ boisterous sonic character, the LET’S ROCK EP sees NAIS continue to build his meteoric momentum with a further four uncompromising tracks.

LET’S ROCK opens with a track by the same name, within which NAIS warps a funk fueled introductory instrumental with an uproarious bassline that allows space for the samples swung snares to step underneath. VISIBLE TRIGGERS takes a similar approach to its bassline synthesis, but instead stretches it amidst a rapid percussive sequence of ringing metallic timbre. The initial dubby atmosphere of JNGL follows next, taking the source material of the genre as the inspiration for a uniquely technical set of sounds. The braggadocious bravado of BOSSIN then closes the EP, perhaps most emblematic of NAIS boisterous sound in it’s hyperenergetic & funky bassline flow.

With LET’S ROCK, NAIS returns to his NEUROPUNK RECORDS launchpad as he seeks to set out on a second sonic journey that sees him rise even further than the explosive success of his first.
