This playlist contains music of my own along with those of my musical influences along with my close friends. The name of the playlist implies that we are working through things, be it physical mental, or both. I lost my youngest son, and music was my solace. RDJ's beautiful broken chaos with melodies that cut to the core helped and inspired me. Until I heard his music, I thought I was alone enjoying the absolute weirdness of what can be done with time and tools. My works during his early days were nothing like his, but I think they came from the same places inside.

One long continuous take of spontaneous music and sounds using a Mk 1. Fender Rhodes and one Synth.  Nothing prerecorded, and no post edits.  As if you were there. 

This session is more of an example of how I create new sounds. Where I'm playing on another keyboard to create a context for the new sound I'm going to make on the keyboard that I'm making the new sound on. 

So left hand is playing the Rhodes (context part) right hand is playing the synth and while sustain pedal is being held, right hand makes adjustments. I'm using my right foot to play both the sustain pedal of the Rhodes and the synth (heel and toes) so I can have one sustain and the other not or both sustain. Having the notes sustain  gives me time to make changes and pay attention to the whole mix so that I make the sound fit the mix.

I used parts of this for two new songs,  "Echoes Of You" and "Dayou's Lament" 

The entire thing does feel like one long theme that changes but returns.

Another one-take-wonder back in Korea that I had forgotten about. This was the predecessor to Cognitive Dissonance 1. This song is supposed to put you into a scene. It's 1983. A girl rides up this mountain road to a haunted mansion on her Vespa. She is excited and scared of what awaits her. Tried to be somewhat faithful to the era of music and technology. The picture (link below) I have chosen is the same setup, I used to play it, bass on the lower half of the General Music PRO2, Piano in the middle of the keyboard Lead synth on the Alesis, and Comp synth on the gray keyboard on top of the rack which was the fast keyboard stabs. I forgot about this one. I'm glad I found it digging through my archive.  Though I might shorten it.

One take recording of a song I originally recorded in 1994. This is un-sequencing, if you will. An attempt to capture what I had created using midi sequencing in the past, playing as much of the parts in one recording take.  The rhythms follow the areas of the keyboard that I am playing. I had prearranged certain areas to be for the verse, build,  chorus, so that I could just play and the appropriate rhythm would be in the background.  The upper 88 note midi controller (Fatar SL880) primarily drives the four rackmount synths (Kawai K4r top, Kawai K5000r, Kurzweil K2000RS, Kawai K1rII) over three midi zones.  The angled 88 note keyboard is playing a pad sound from the K5000, along with a custom acoustic piano sound I created on the Alesis Micron layered in the foreground over the built in piano sound of that 88 key keyboard.  Same goes for the bass sound custom made on the Alesis, along with the upright bass sound that is provided by the 88 note General Music PRO2.

Orphans EP

Apex Twin - Orphans [full ep]

This is the second song in the Micron Chronicles, using the just the Alesis Micron for all the instrumentation. This goes a step further and is a one take recording similar to my other one take recordings. This song is the last three minutes of the original 12 minute one take recording. This song is titled "Just like that, Nice" because it had a nice friendly feel to it. The other songs that will come from that original 12 minute jam are a bit Naughty.  Because I had the drums programmed to respond to what I was playing it gave me a lot of freedom with my timing. There were a lot of times I felt like I was playing with a drummer since the keyboard was providing a real neat call and respond effect. I also mixed in a lot of different beats to give more patterns from different areas of the keyboard.

Tech notes:  Used the Micron and split the keyboard half for bass half for piano. About 18 keys for both sides to work with. Samsung Chromebook running Audio Evolution.

formally adopting his partners' hyphenated  maiden name with his own name and going by the French pronunciation of his name to mark this point in time as a transition into something new. 

Michel is a singer, songwriter, and composer. Playing piano since 1982.  Was musically relegated to classical but took the journey from classical, to fusion, to electronic, with many sources of inspiration along the way.

MIDI Alchemy is the pseudonym that he uses when putting the focus more on a concept and a band that can fluctuate as people have come into and out of his life.
