Relentless techno powerhouses Octave One stride in 2022 with a brand new release that re-affirms their status across two essential tracks. 
2021 was another busy year for the Burden Brothers, who re-introduced the world to their Never On Sunday alias. The project first started in the 90s as an outlet for deeper, more introspective sounds and was fittingly brought back last year to great acclaim. The Detroit duo’s Locus of Control series also hit volume number three and the iconic Octave One live show continued to light up clubs everywhere from Barcelona, Paris and Geneva to LA and New York. Despite that, they still had time to cook up more of their famously soulful techno in the studio, the first two tracks of which are presented here.
Opener ‘The Blue Drift’ surges ahead on waves of rattling metallic synths. Well swung claps bring that irresistible sense of groove, while twisted melodies add raw dynamics. Add in the heavy underlying bass and you have a classic Octave One track that is both physical yet emotional. 
On the flip side is ‘It-Just-Is’ a powerful statement of intent. It’s a stripped back track where house and techno meet - there is a seductive slide to the drums and potency in the turbulent synths which bring the energy. The melody is melancholic and as the emotive pads ring out they lodge deep in your brain to make for another standout cut. 
This vital new release proves Octave One remains right at the forefront of underground music more than 30 years after they started out.

Joining forces for the first time are label founder Len Faki and Juxta Position, a rather fresh yet already integral member of Figure. How effectively the prolific producers worked them machines with combined strength shows in every fiber of this four-tracker.

The record‘s sides feature two alternate mixes of each track: Superstition tempts with is sultry vocal, driven by an irresistible acidic groove, fusing Juxta Position’s preference for rough and analogue sounds with the tight programming Len Faki has become renowned for. Paying tribute to UK’s gritty brand of warehouse-techno, A2 introduces a more swinging and all-out version of the track.

A lot more tender than its counterpart, Gathering Clouds slowly builds from jagged synths and droning basses, brewing up a vivid tempest of anticipation. Verging carefully on the moment of emotional release, we are left to imagine the theatrical scenery cooked up in this delicious blend of the two artists’ singular skills.

Celebrating its 20th release, this edition of LF RMX features appearances from two of the scene‘s cutting edge producers: Richie Hawtin under his guise of Plastikman alongside Carl Craig‘s Tres Demented-alias. 

While Hawtin‘s original might seem a minimalistic bleeping experiment to some, Len Faki‘s edit has plenty of groove to it. Equipped with substantial low-end frequency and a solid kick, the track slowly develops an ambiance that's spooky, tribal and mesmerizing.

The flip carries an equally strong rework, its grand acid riff and standout-vocals holding center stage, with newly added percussion driving the momentum that turn this one into a peak-time hitter in true crazed-out Tres Demented-style.

Slam get to grips with Envoy’s 1996 classic, ‘Dark Manoeuvres’ in this latest EP release. Soma have been bringing some of Envoy’s classic releases up to date with Slam following Ricardo Villalobos in reinterpreting the earlier work, all of which leads to May’s release on Soma of new material by Envoy. 

Dark Manoeuvres is a track which lives up to its name, the original expressing pumping, dark and crunchy sounds interspersed with string arrangements and overdubs which move the track in various different directions. The 1996 original is a great example of some production techniques of the time and is of interest in identifying the direction of the Techno sound in that era, as well as being eminently listenable. 

Slam were very much involved in the progression of Techno at the same time as Envoy was creating tracks such as Dark Manoeuvres and as such they have a real handle on how things have evolved, enabling them to bring a classic release such as this bang up to date. 

The distinctive hook, attention-grabbing melody and strings which are distinctive elements of the original are all incorporated in a full and fresh dynamic which sees some of these elements regrouped in individual sections such as the strings or moulded with deeper, darker resonance into a new expression. The hi-hat and kick drum interplay still drives the rhythm keeping that element as a prominent part of the track, setting a strong foundation that was integral to the original. Some of the more idiosyncratic elements of the original such as the aquatic overdubs, highlighting production, are reconstructed with use of modern technology to provide waves of highly imposing, building sound at crucial points in the track.

This is a great remix by Slam elevating the original track and elements within it to provide a new and totally engaging release which still expresses all the great qualities of the original. This will be a firm favourite with old and new fans of both Envoy and Slam.

Michele Garavini is a self made musician who started his passion for music thanks for his family.
In early age he listened to vinyles from the father collection at home for hours, and he started experimenting music production at age of 12, spending days in front of his pc with the demo of fruity loops. Starting to play the guitar at the same time. 
Michele at age of 14, played in several bands as singer and guitarist.
During those time as a song writer and composer he got close to the hip hop scene, that in the 2008(?) created the band with his brother, Marco Garavini ( in art “ Dead Tribe “ ), called “Iridina 4” that after became “Fuoco sul beat “ . 
In 2012 he started to travel Europe. He spent almost one year between Spain and Portugal. Those are the places where his passion for electronic music and Techno really started.
After one year experimenting, he self-released his first album “Chilled EP ‘’ in London.
As music productions and playing music became a daily routine, he started to be more participant in to the scene, performing in small venue around London.
In 2015 he decided to move from the city to reach Australia where he spent 2 years, also performing and producing.
In the same years he also started to collaborate with “Shell5”, a music label based in London. Now a-days he is the co-owner of Shell5 with the brother.
Moved to Canary island in 2017 he kept producing
