Something we called creating sonic landscapes. This is early 21st century world acoustic improv w me on the the Breedlove CM guitar and Michael Masley on his perfected  "'TRI-BOW' NYCKELHARPA." The road starts to get interesting about a min. and a half in, then veers, then transports elsewhere and the piece turns into a wild journey around 2:30. Frenetic at times, grounding at others, no overdubs, one take. It's what I liked the best about playing w Michael Masley (aka the Artist General)...it was always a musical journey worth taking. The recordings served as an interesting map leading us back to places familiar, but visited so long ago. There's an intensity that gives way to an eventual resting place...

The Road Unravelled

A basic progression with a few reharmonizations brought to you by a loose translation of Bela Bartok's axis system.  The solo was completely written out, so nothing was improvised.  I used triad pairing with some chromatic approaches, and also used another loose translation of a Bela Bartok concept, polymodal chromaticism, on a few measures.  I play a Steve McDonald VD3404 bass guitar, check out Steve's basses!!!  The drum track was from a Teenage Engineering PO-12 Rhythm.  Everything was recorded and mixed on a Zoom H4N Pro, then I used Audacity (free) to trim off the beginning and end, add fade-in and fade-out, and added a little compression.

Abby and Robbie Martin discuss the ongoing saga of California private power company PG&E and how they held two million California customers hostage by deliberately turning off their power to avoid liability costs for potential wild fires during high wind events. Robbie personally had his power shut off for 48 hours at a time by PG&E in October and November, and talks about his own experience and realizations. PG&E's long history of criminal acts and being responsible for massive death and injuries is discussed as well as the exacerbating effect climate change is having on the up-tick in wild fires.
