'Brainsugar', was written by Nikhil Sundar (Aura Borealis), from Bangalore - India over a period of 8 months, a time of continous isolation during the pandemic - a time during which he literally surivived on nothing but copious amounts of Golden virginia, homemade kombucha, small bits of charras, & loads of watermelon juice - topped up with erratic eating habits and extremely little sleep.
If not anything, something did come out of this period of confinement - an album of 15 tracks, arising from sustained productivity and the ultimate shutting off from the outside world.
The album focuses conceptually on bridging the gaps between different forms of electronic music - and aims to break boundaries and stereotypes in regards to the usage of different kinds of instruments, percussive grooves, time signatures, and the play between different various elements and soundscapes.
Essentially bordering on the experimental electronica genre, this album is heavily influenced by world & tribal music, folklore, roots, psychedelia, and finally a neo-industrial & cinematic production style.
The album includes instruments ranging from the Bansuri Flute, Qi Di, Xi Di & Bang Di flutes, Chinese Ghuzeng, Japanese Koto, Shamisen, Didgeridoo, Giant Tongue Drum, Shakuhachi, Thunder Drum, Djembe, Korean Samul Nori, & Marimba - all the way up to Congas, Bongos, Tabla, Dholak, Acoustic & Electric Guitar, and regular Drums.

Nevertheless, they are both infused with the freshness, flow and enthusiasm that is so recognisable for this artist.

13 Crystal Skulls - Aura Borealis

The underlying idea behind Microburst Alert stemmed from an intention to dabble freely with a sound palette for electronic music that was diverse , eclectic, rich in creative pursuit and even slightly obscure at times - without sticking to any specific boundaries in terms of genre or “style”. The presented ideas are reflective of the primal nature of a lot of what we have come to identify with techno, IDM & electronica. Nikhil’s work under this project / alias has a wide array of adopted directions one can associate with his music. The released tracks have the potential to actively Influence the perspective of music connoisseurs, consumers, tastemakers and producers alike. The overall spectrum is as broad as it is raw and unique.

On April 20th (2025), the debut full-length album from Microburst Alert - “Abstract Motion” was released on Bandcamp , subsequently May 11th on all major steaming platforms worldwide. The album has been built with attention to detail - deriving a chain of creative ideas from jungle, breakbeat, drum & bass, Berlin school, garage, industrial, Goa trance, ambient & IDM.
