10 Years of Mechatronica in Berlin, April 15th 2022

We are talking with https://soundcloud.com/jensen-interceptor aka Mikey Melas - uplifting soul, DJ and producer from Australia. He has been releasing singles since 2012, his energy rocketed with releases through Boys Noize and Sheffield’s Central Processing Unit (CPU) labels and numerous cool collaborations. His sound is combined from electro tradition influenced by the greats - Kraftewerk & Detroit sound - and modern edge, pop twists, moving dancefloor beats. His tracks has been picked up by many of the biggest DJs while sets played by Jensen Interceptor himself are delightful too.

Micron Audio opens its doors to an external artist for the first time, welcoming in @ctrls with a crucial new EP entitled Your Data. Across four tracks, the Danish producer unravels a dark and funky electro core, taking inspiration from the rapidly intertwining codependence between technology and society. As digital twins, metaverses or humanoid robots lodge themselves deeper into our surroundings, Ctrls unpicks the deepening complexity brought on by our pervasive digital lives.

Encouraged by Micron Audio boss Stingray to delve into the darker productions as a means of exploring a contemporary electro sound, Ctrls fixes a hypnotic heft with fresh industrial sound design, never resting as he navigates contorting track structures and twisting tones. The digital hum rages, as brain neurons fire from information overload, with a tsunami feeling and emotions in tow.

Remarkable is the combination of pounding rhythm, hauled in by a magnetic motion, with tones of digital disintegration, all flux and shift. This electro sound is a far cry from a clone of the genre's forebearers - no retro-specificity. Instead, Ctrls delivers a timely dose of accelerated culture - The Future is Now.

'Pulteney Symphony' continues a stellar run of bright, bold singles that channel their production work for the likes of Fever Ray and Björk into jaw-dropping club tracks. From the ebb and flow of the synths that launch the tune to the cascading layers of strings that gradually tease into the mix, it's a heart-rending composition capped off with electronica sentimentality. Should you still have any additional good fortune left, we have put together a second Aid EP, to help support the artists in our community and on our label, currently under financial pressure due to the massive amount of DJ gig and live set cancellations within our scene - and to keep the lights on in our collective, which is heavily dependent on income from event production.

The Aid EP II additionally enables us to provide a bit of work for our mastering engineer, also a DJ and producer, financially impacted by event cancellations.

All sales will be split 50/50 between the artists and ourselves, after production costs have been recouped.
