FORZA is Origami Sound’s concept-based EP collection focused on DJ tools and mainly club-oriented music that might not make much sense in a home listening environment. This is not music that you can lounge or have your siesta to. 

The fifth release showcases parisian duo Neon, a collaboration between Adam and Olson. Their four track EP follows up on Adam's FORZA.04 release. fitting into the same pool of influences and combining the harder breeds of techno music into a playful bundle of intense moments for large, preferably dark venues.

For the newest instalment, i'm really happy to welcome the incredible Brussels-based AliA (@aliamusicc). The local mainstay is a regular on Kiosk radio and runs her own label - @artisjokrecords. Alyah, better known as AliA,  has an exciting & unique approach to dj'ing. She is known for her blend of contemporary club music with jazz, classical and experimental sounds. 

I find AliA's musical outputs incredibly refreshing - the kind of artist who reminds you what a really good DJ can do - they can present genres & sounds to you that you'd otherwise maybe not typically explore, in a new and exciting way. For her Animix, Alyah has gone for an intensely chill blend of ambient & immersive music, with minimal, glitchy, dub techno, jazz, classical sounds and more.

Madelyn Byrd (they/them, b. 1992) is an educator, musician, DJ, and worldbuilding practitioner based in Berlin. Their creative and educational work implements decolonial, hydrofeminist and queer ecology to investigate possibilia and the “sympoietics” of co-becoming to promote synergistic social transformation beyond human-centred perspectives. Byrd fosters a deeply collaborative, interdisciplinary spirit to deconstruct and reconstruct the perceptual realm, weaving field recording, intricate sound design, spoken word, and somatics. Madelyn holds a Masters in Neuroaesthetics from Goldsmiths, where they researched the impact of collaborative imagination on measures of connection and hope in social praxis art. They teach critical theory + music production courses on sonic worldbuilding with Soundial. They are a current resident in Zurich University of the Art’s School of Commons (SoC), 2025 with collaborator Lou Croff Blake to develop their project, Chimera.

@slowfoam is Byrd’s all-encompassing, genre-defying music moniker. They create speculative post-human dialogues and para-worlds, sculpting a/biotic textures from electroacoustics, field recording, feedback, granulated synthesis, drones, and spoken word. Their playful sonic tapestries are spatially triggered and adapted to deep-listening environments, clubs, and everything in between. They have performed and toured extensively, including recent performances at Subbacultcha (NL), Cafe Oto (London), The Lab (San Francisco), Morse (Tokyo), and Morphine Raum (Berlin). Their discography has been published on Somewhere Press, Mappa, and Jungle Gym Records. Slowfoam is a former resident at Internet Public Radio, where they curated their monthly show, Our Tomorrow. Their work has yielded features on Bandcamp, Electronic Sound Mag, DJ Mag, First Impressions, Pitchfork, Boomkat, The Wire Magazine, and Futurism Restated.

Moved by low-end frequencies from an early age, Seb H. (@sebcantmix) hunts for records that carry the hallmarks of dub and soundsystem culture. UK-born, Netherlands-based, he releases his debut EP, ‘untitled’, earlier this year on London-label kinetic. Available both digitally and on vinyl, it combines rolling sub-bass with introspective textures and dancefloor rooted rhythms.

About the mix: “I have three turntables at home now and I've been really enjoying digging for more ambient/abstract/experimental records to make layered collages of sound. So I wanted the mix to start there, then a friend sent me some unreleased tracks he'd made recently and straight away I knew I wanted to include them, which gave me a destination to aim for. Then it was just a matter of finding a route from A to B.”

After an extended pause for much needed rest and slow reflection, the Patterns of Perception crew is excited to return to our mix series with fresh energy and a stellar new mix from Jasmin, aka softi (@jazz_brown). 

Soulful, breezy and groove-laden, softi's Patterns of Perception 122 shimmers with her kaleidoscopic, minimal sound. Weightless sparks float and flicker in dim light. Time dilates; seasons drift.

A few thoughts from Jasmin:

Hey Jasmin, how’s it going? What's been happening for you lately?
I’m well, I’m currently living between Lisbon and London this summer which has been a dream! Great food, beach sessions and writing music. It’s been a wild 3 months and I’m just getting myself ready for the seasons changing!

What can you tell us about your mix?
For this mix I wanted to mould my love of groovy minimal and psychedelic tones for the moody season ahead, which is usually my signature sound! I have been producing a lot of this recently and some of my unreleased bits are exclusively inside 💜

⁠Is there a track or tracks that are extra special for you?
I’d probably say my own productions are the special to me as it reminds me of how much I have developed as a producer and artist. I love connecting with the tracks and being able to create my own atmospheric world for listeners to get lost in. But one track that I always come back to is "bluep" by Underground City Loop (a producer from Aus). I have been playing this track for years and it has every sonic element you'd want from a track - low end sub groove with dark melodic synths.

Patterns of Perception 122 - softi

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of attending the fourth edition of Mostra, one of the most beautiful, safe, and welcoming gatherings we've ever experienced. It was an intimate, four-day festival in the city of Barcelona dedicated to exploring experimental electronic music and the avant-garde — expertly curated and surrounded by a beautiful community of like-minded souls who treated us like family.

On the second day of the festival at Fabra i Coats — inside one of the most respectful and attentive listening rooms, with an audience whose silence drew you even deeper into the sound — Detroit legend and Mostra resident Patrick Russell took his place in the booth, seated this year, and delivered a deeply moving and powerful sonic trip — one we’re honored to share with you today.

A big thank you to Patrick and Mostra for giving us the opportunity to share one of our favourite performances of the festival.

Mostra x The Observatory - Patrick Russell

The next instalment in our series comes from ANNX, recorded at Corsica Studios during the @snoozeafters night in collaboration with @crescent-london. It drifts through ambient soundscapes, nature-tinged downtempo, dubbed-out grooves, and irresistibly slow, squelchy basslines.

Inspired by cities and dancefloors where she's lived and explored, ANNX’s unique seductive sound echos within her psychedelic selections across trance, prog, psy, techno, tech house, bass and more. 

Her distinct sound has gained her global visibility appearing on club and festival line-ups in the UK, France and Mexico including Gloria at Macadam, SinXcensura in Mexico and she is a resident DJ at Above Below Festival. 

Anna’s commitment to the scene goes beyond the booth, she carefully identifies niche sounds that are missing in the UK and has become a staple for psychedelic music on London's club circuit. In 2021, she founded Whomp, a non-profit party in London which she now co-runs with Lora Mipsum. In 2023, she started a brand-new project perspectives• with lighting designer Nicole Gordon. Most recently, she joined the Above Below music team. 

All is in flux. Nothing remains still.

LEVL performed on the third day of #Mostra25 at the Vall d'Hebron Olympic Pavilion.

Forest Drive West, Felix K and DB1 are LEVL. Together, they explore the murky territory between drum & bass, techno and experimental electronics, crafting a distinctive sound that defies the boundaries of genre. The trio's collaboration began with DB1 and Forest Drive West putting out music through Berlin-based Felix K’s label Hidden Hawaii, which led to the formation of LEVL: a combination of each artist’s unique production approach that creates a cohesive and innovative sound. 

LEVL's debut release, “LEVL#1”, was issued in 2019 on Arcola, a sub-label of Warp Records, a bass- and breaks-heavy record showcasing their ability to blend ambient textures with complex rhythms. “LEVL#2”, on Felix K's Nullpunkt label, further explores the intersection of ambient, drum & bass and techno.

Beyond their recorded output, LEVL brings a strong energy to live performances, delivering an immersive and genre-bending musical experience. With meticulous attention to detail, the group pushes the boundaries of electronic music through soundscapes that challenge and captivate listeners.

Today’s Deep Mind Music entry is a trip through the depths of the earth from Shoal 🌘🌙

Listening to this set I was transported into another realm of being, taken by the hand through the mists of time, into the molten core of the earth. A transmission from the collective unconsciousness of mankind, sinking into the faded memories of our ancestors. Megalithic drones contrast with intricate moments of delicate celestial harmony, as iridescent shimmers of light glint into a shadowed cave. As the mix concludes, we softly re-emerge, floating on a blanket of rainbow-hued clouds ✨🤍

This mix is a live set made entirely of music composed by Shoal, formed from a series of recordings. It features field recordings captured in Japan, as well as a jam session with flute (Urosh), contrabass (Julian Tjon Sack Kie), and sound exploring a tam-tam gong, all collaged together. Thank you Shoal for this moving and evocative journey taking listeners through the primordial beyond 🌌💠🌀
