"Ravanhatta" is a hand-made bow string instrument rooted in the folk music traditions of Rajasthan. It is made from bamboo & coconut shell mainly by the artists themselves. Ravanhatta players (who are a vanishing breed) are called "bhopas" and they belong to the Nayak, Bhil or Thori castes of Rajasthan. This is an unplugged recital of an iconic Rajasthani love ballad... live from Meherangarh Fort in Jodhpur.

Lagori - River Song (official audio)

The third in this set of Bandcamp EPs finds Honey Smugglers at Bark Studio in Walthamstow in the Autumn of 1990 during initial sessions for a follow up to the `Listen' EP. As it turns out we recorded a different set of songs for the `Closer' EP in early 1991.

Each of the first three songs were longstanding stage favourites and could be heard in most Smugglers setlists. `Anybody But You' embodies the Smugglers groove as well as any of their tunes and check out the spontaneous studio magic as Steve kick starts the piece on an Organ with a mind of its own.

`Pie In The Sky' appeared in live form on an album recorded at The Sausage Machine in Hampstead, (`Now That's Disgusting Music') but this is the studio version. In a gigging situation we used to see how long we could extend the gap in the middle before people would start clapping, but here....just an uneasy, digital silence.

`Beautiful People' was played in a number of arrangements throughout the band's career, this perhaps being the best and most concise. The improvised vocal coda at the end by Chris assures this version's place as first choice. It was a first take vocal.

The final track `Whole Wide World' was a unique cover version which was only ever played this once. It was part of a planned Fiction Records sampler which never happened. It didn't even cross our minds to play it live, great song though it is, I guess we had too many of our own songs vying for position in a setlist of ten.

Mrityunjaya Mantra, also known as "Rudra mantra" is found in "Rig veda VII.59.12",  "Yajur Veda III.60", Atharva Veda XIV.1.17", "Shiva Purana" among others. Meaning of Lyrics in English

We worship the Three-eyed Lord who is fragrant and who nourishes and nurtures all beings. (1)

As is the ripened cucumber (with the intervention of the gardener) is freed from its bondage (to the creeper), may he liberate us from death for the sake of immortality. (2)

Word by word Meaning of Lyrics

    ॐ = oṁ = is a sacred/mystical syllable in Sanatan Dharma or hindu religions, i.e.
    Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism (symbol of ultimate reality).
    त्र्यम्बकम् = tryambakam, त्रि (Try=Three)+ अम्बकम् (Ambakam=Eyes)= “one who has three eyes” referring to Rudra or Siva who share the same attributes. (1) Firstly, in His ‘vishwaroopa’ or universal form, the three eyes symbolically signify the sun, moon and fire. Sunlight during the day, moon at night and fire in their absence signify illumination. (2) Secondly, the pair of eyes give sight to the material world and its experiences. The third eye is symbolic of ‘atma-jnana’ or knowledge of the Self through which one sees the higher reality. Kamadeva or Manmatha is the God of Desire perennially churning the mind and causing restlessness.
    यजामहे=yajāmahe = We worship, adore, honour, revere you
    सुगन्धिम् = sugandhim = sweet smelling, the fragrant (spiritual Essence). The fragrance The word in the mantra does not refer to physical fragrance, ie perfume but fragrance of character. Perfume emanates from a source and spreads to a reasonable distance. As such noble character spreads with warmth.
    पुष्टि = puṣṭi = A well-nourished condition, thriving, prosperous, fullness of life.
    वर्धनम् vardhanam =  is one who nourishes, strengthens or restores (in health, wealth,
    well-being); a good gardener.
    उर्वारुकमिव urvārukamiva: उर्वारु, (Urvaaru=Cucumber) इव (Iva=Like, In the same manner)= like the
    cucumber, here ‘urva’ means ‘vishal’ or big, powerful or deadly. ‘Arukam’ means disease. Thus ‘urvarukam means deadly and overpowering diseases. The pumpkin or cucumber interpretation is given to show detachment. The diseases are those caused by the negative effects of the three gunas and therefore (a) ‘avidya’ – ignorance or falsehood and (b) ‘sadripu’ – a constraint of the physical body.
    बन्धनात् (bandhanāt)=means bound down, Bondage [of Samsara or Worldly Life]'I am bound
    down just like a cucumber (to a vine)'.
    मृत्यु (mrtyu) = Death
    मुक्षीय (mukṣīya) = Liberation
    मृत्योर्मुक्षीय mṛtyormukṣīya = Free, Liberate us from the fear of Death
    मामृतात् (Maa-Amrtaat): Liberate us from the death (for the sake of Immortality); मा (Maa) = Not, अमृत (Amrta) = Immortal

Mahamrityunjaya Mantra - Sacred Sound Choir - Ancient Chant For Healing & Peace

Nadha in Sanskrit means “sound” and Aradhana signifies “worship” or “devotional offering”. Nadha Aradhana is an intuitive synthesis of vocals and instruments performed twice daily in the Dhyanalinga Multi-Religious Shrine at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore.

An enchanting and deeply healing mix of singing bowls and assorted natural musical instruments in conjuction with voices, Nadha Aradhana is a live offering that enables listeners to slip effortlessly into a receptive mode, making them available to the divine energies and Grace of the Dhyanalinga, and allowing them to experience deep states of meditation.

Every Nadha Aradhana is an unfailingly moving experience. Emerging as it does from a state of deep interiority, it is an expression of the performers’ reverence and love – a response to the powerful presence of the Dhyanalinga. The soothing tone of the singing bowls sets the tone, inviting listeners to delight in an arabesque of pure sounds, unmediated by sahitya or lyrical content. Singers of Indian, Arabic, and Western styles combine with the bamboo flute, guitar, sitar, or veena to create a soaring oblation of sacred sound. As the music draws to a close, an intense and passionate sequence of Indian percussion takes over, its lingering echoes enabling listeners to experience the imminent silence that follows in a way they never have before.

Nadha Aradhana is performed in the Dhyanalinga Temple daily from 11.50 am to 12:10 pm and from 5:50 pm to 6:10 pm – timings that are recognized as sandhya kalas, or phases when nature itself undergoes a deep transition, and are known to be especially conducive for one to experience dhyana or meditation.

The Midival Punditz are easily India’s biggest and most prolific electronica act. The past decade has seen the rise of the electronica scene within India and no single band has had more influence on its growth than Midival Punditz.
