From his debut at DJ Nobu’s FUTURE TERROR event to performing 3 years consecutively at Berlin Atonal Festival, Yukimatsu’s sets have to be heard for you to understand.

In this special mix album, Yukimatsu gathers round his producer friends to build vessels of the story structure. Threading the pages together, interweaved by friendship and sine waves, he has crafted a masterful presentation from their individual messages. Pulling and stretching all sonic shapes and shades while exploring the farthest reaches of sound, the result is a frequency soup of twelve outstanding tracks that when sequenced together, become part of a greater, grander story: Midnight is Comin’.

From the sound art experimentations of orhythmo – Nagel and wide yawning strings in Ryo Murakami – Reminiscence to the rhythmic slo-mo haze of Sapphire Slows – Hinotori and the exponentially pulsing colours from DJ Nobu - Yakou Gai. The DMT-like spacious virtual meditation hall of KEIHIN – Exhale follows the uneasy footsteps of YPY – MS to the intermissioning chapter of City – 9K. Fall into the wormhole of COMPUMA –Flowmotion (IN DUB) and be transported to the reverb-drenched, intimate experience of Coni – Ängelsbäcksstrand, the primal invocations of Gabber Modus Operandi – Kisah (which also means story in Bahasa Indonesian) to the transcendent notes of SPINNUTS - Zweimal schlafen atmosphäre. Bringing his signature heavy freak crunch to the label, Cocktail Party Effect's "Oscilloscope Detachments" is the latest addition to the Midnight Shift catalogue. 

Instructions: Follow the oscilloscope to jack into the EP's pulse from start to end.

Headliner A1 '77' dazzles in melodic glory paired with glitchy underfoot and a high-voltage wire running hot. Next, '88' lets it all loose with classic breaks twisted on its head and with its core intestines spilling out. Unexpected turns in this effect-heavy club composition recalls the phrase that "you've gotta know the rules to break the rules" and CPE is undoubtedly a master of that. '99' takes it further down South London style for the heads, while ambient closer '111' visualises the previously underscored oscilloscope in full spectrum.

MNS X 026 - Cocktail Party Effect - Oscilloscope Detachments

The first in Midnight Shift’s vinyl-only remix series sees festival headliners Deetron and Secret Cinema provide their dancefloor interpretation to the label’s debut release.

Basic Soul Unit’s cool A2 ‘Black Ice’ is re-edited by none other than Deetron, the Swiss native with a prolific and starry discography to his name. He turns Black Ice on its head, leading with its running bassline first while letting its crystal notes be polished to a bright, blinding shine.

Already much supported by the likes of Shackleton, Josh Wink, Bleak and Dixon, Eddie Niguel’s ‘Absolute’ has been circling the circuit to great effect. Here, Netherland’s Secret Cinema aka Jeroen Verheij pumps the mental factor up sideways with an infectious, relentless groove that holds back just enough to keep you wanting more.

L+P-2 is Rivet's second album following his acclaimed debut, On Feather and Wire, released on Editions Mego in 2020. The wheels were already in motion for a subsequent album on the same label, but tragedy struck. Peter "Pita" Rehberg, the legendary owner of Editions Mego, suddenly passed away at only 53 years old, leaving the experimental electronic music community in a state of pitch-black grief. Rivet was among the many deeply affected by this loss. The inspiration and support from Rehberg had propelled Rivet to create at a level he himself was uncertain he had mastered. For Rivet, Rehberg's death felt like the death of music.

However, that brooding sentiment was abruptly shattered when Rivet's beloved dog and companion, Lilo, was diagnosed with incurable cancer just a couple of months later. They were inseparable, and now they would be separated nonetheless. The only way Rivet could cope with this double blow was to compose—for Lilo, for Pita, for his own sanity. L+P-2 is the result.

While the album naturally emerges from a place of despair, it's remarkably comforting. Partly, this stems from Rivet's singular ability to make machines not only sound human but also act human—sincere and warm, yet flawed. In more than one track on L+P-2, you'll encounter a distinctive melody and a gnarly bassline dancing hand in hand with Rivet's eccentric and captivating drum patterns. Then, seemingly on a whim, the melody takes off on its own, leaving the faithful bassline behind—much like a dear friend that suddenly vanishes from your life without warning. Yet life goes on, and so does the music. But never unchanged. Never.

L+P-2 is an album of lamentation, yet also of resolve—a dedication to those who go through life losing more than their share because they always carry too much.

Freivogel / Sinclaire with their debut Untitled consisting of three live recordings made using only a concert flute and an Octatrack M1. The recordings are live taken from improvised sessions and have been left unedited. 

Shifting between playful and austere, the simple goal for these sessions was honest improvisation; comfortable in both its limits and potentials. Placing classical instrument performance and extended playing techniques alongside heavy sonic processing and cavernous acoustics, they are in some ways uninfluenced by genre, governed only by a drive to find moments of clarity amidst chaos. 

Recorded in single takes using a simplified setup of the flute - played into a microphone and wired through an Octatrack - every sound heard in the recordings comes in one way or another from the flute as a single sound source, manipulated and looped on the fly with additional live improvisation over the top. 

The result is a timeless capsule of heady drones, offbeat electronics, and mischievous flutes, captured during a time when the world stood still. Scuzzy at times, glistening at others, and ever-optimistic in the pursuit of something new. 

Adam Sinclaire is a flautist who has worked with artists such as Billy Bultheel and Ziúr, recorded for labels including PAN and Purple Tape Pedigree, and performed for institutions including KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Schinkel Pavillon, and Martin-Gropius-Bau. His practice focuses on using extended playing techniques to explore the limits of the C flute. 

Marco Freivogel is a producer and composer who has released an extensive discography on labels including Mannequin Records and Veyl, and collaborated with artists including dBridge, Mare Nero and Mathew Jonson, remixing artists as diverse as Hercules & Love Affair, Shackleton and Yappa. His Prequel Tapes project sits between utopian and claustrophobic, tracing harsh industrial atmospheres and levitational ambient from a lifelong obsession with sonic extremes. Marco currently works on compositions for film and television, alongside his own releases and collaborations. The EP will be released on 14 February 2025 as limited vinyl and digital via Midnight Shift. Art direction by Mauro Ventura.

All record profits from this release will go to 3ezwa.de, providing financial and legal support to those facing repression for their commitment to the Palestinian cause.

The MNS X series returns for its 4th issue after a blistering John Heckle EP with one from the Spainard mystic: Eduardo De La Calle. Featuring full EPs from the label artists, the MNS X series plays in the field of the analog, acid and techno.

For this, Eduardo De La Calle has put forward a tougher stance from his other silky productions, heading into the rough, analogue and raw terrain for Midnight Shift. The result packs a punch, rounded up with a remix by Hodge.

Getting straight into business out of his Ashram studio is ‘Roswell Case’ on A1. A relentless pulsating and slithering acid bassline anchors the raw and percussive track, making it a peak-time earworm roller that will resonate across dancefloors.

‘Synthesized Priorities’ takes the respectable second position and is another builder where the soul of the machine makes itself heard amidst a temple of ethic drumming. What is it spelling out to you? Don’t get hypnotised!
 
On the flip, the title track ‘Mexican Madness’ gets the Hodge aka Jacob Martin remix treatment, turning the opening synth groove into an all-out rugged union jack. Fire and another winning move from the Bristolian producer.

B2 goes to the original ‘Mexican Madness’, a twisted journey into the chaotic mind, led by an analogue synth and its friends. Get dizzy standing in the Mexican heat, as the crowd noise builds and claps around you. Too much tequila can just about begin to describe this peculiar product, waiting to wreck insane havoc on the floor.

5 years since Midnight Shift’s first release in 2012, the label assembles a collective of artists, most of them are in advance of their full EPs releasing later.

Representing the now and future sounds of the label, the motley crew also comprises the alternate sides of familiar faces — Amato (The Hacker), Terry Lamborgini (Marco Bernardi), INNYSTER (Seixlack), Hodge in a new formation with Gramrcy and an electro moniker from an undisclosed artist, Thermocline. From abstract acrobatics to the abrasive and the ultimate gob smack — the Midnight Manual is in the bag.

Manufactured Conflicts is the hard-hitting precision engineered debut from one of electronic music’s most acclaimed experimental underground’s drummer. His cinematic math-laden techno is a combination of beastial, off-pulse rhythms, clever metric modulation, inspired textures and punchy transients designed to bend the listener’s mind whilst providing a high-impact full-body massage groove to the dancefloor.

Fierce and punishing, title tracks ‘Manufactured Conflicts’ and ‘Orbature’ pummel away at the consciousness where the only way out is through whole mind and body surrender. Manipulations of the mind play out in the two end-game scenarios of ‘Artificial Landscapes Part 1 and 2’, where lightness and tension interlace between man and machine.

Samuel Kerridge thoughtfully re-engineers ‘Orbature’ re-pacing the structure and contributing additional textures to the piece. His rework sculpts a haunting industrial feel to the track.

Midnight Shift returns with its sophomore outing Shift 002, presenting two artists recontextualised from the conventions from which they came: Iron Curtis from depths of the deep house realm and one Ultrademon, the notorious inventor of the seapunk scene. Once again, a notable split EP with each of the 4 tracks owning its unique place in the world.

IRON CURTIS
Also known as Johannes Paluka, Iron Curtis delivers two versions of Never Give Up. The first original is a deep houser, informed by Chicago, slightly yearning and executed in the lush, quietly confident style of Iron Curtis. Of structural complexity, The Chant version reconfigures the piece into a clanging techno classical masterpiece, making every single second of its 5:52 length count.

ULTRADEMON
The former Josephine’s Collective keyboardist left to strike out on his own, and created the furor that is known as #seapunk as he did. Both Bend and Goonchie Blunch are immediately distinctive to the ears, the former awashing you in a wave of arpeggiated chords, while the latter announcing the rapturous sideways entrance of an unmistakable young talent.  A great expression borne out of the 21st Century.

Ultrademon - Bend

A techno shift, Midnight Shift’s third release sees Recondite on his upward trajectory pair up with the relatively reserved Julien H Mulder. Both outputs possess a stripped down aesthetic, but while the former revels in the straight and shiny, the latter brings a touch of lightness and play. A tightly packed, hardworking 4-track EP that will serve the many moods of a DJ well.

Formerly from Bavaria and now based in Berlin, Recondite crafts ‘Borderline’, a track that broods in shimmery afterdark punch, such as with the last bright rays of an inevitably waning sun. ‘Stomper’ does not have to go on too long to make a point. It is a moody, melancholic, almost lovesick trudge topped off with restless hi hats. Accomplished in ambient space music, Julien H Mulder has been producing music since the 90s. To him, simplicity is best. The Stockholm resident’s ‘Won’t Say Nothing’ is a lightly drenched sigh paired with broken beat while ‘Old Rutins’ is a bassline-led kicker soon to run amok in dancefloors. They hint at what is to come with his forthcoming full EP on Midnight Shift.
