For the inaugural contribution to the DRIFT X Midnight Bass mix series, Bristol based @xsemprax brings us a beautiful chilled out mix residing on the fringes of jungle and liquid dnb.  

For 45 mins, Sempra weaves elements of atmospheric jazz together with breaky soulful cuts and lush pads to create a retro sounding mix created for the year 2022, bringing back memories of compilations by DJs such as Peshay and LTJ Bukem but giving them a slick, polished feel. 

Including a number of his own tracks, - as well as bits by the likes of Tim Reaper, Coco Bryce, Skyro, Carlito (and many more) - the first contribution to this series masterfully combines the elements that each collective is best known for into a blend of club style music that you can listen to at home.

His hour long mix combines selections of the underground, experimental and ambient variety so expect dreamy vocal samples, uplifiting pads, arpeggiated stabs and delicate drums throughout. It is easy listening and the perfect soundtrack for a chill evenings through the winter months!

Traversing the frayed ends of leftfield UK club music, Nou's mix comes in hot for Episode 7 of the Midnight x Drift series. She stitches together an enthralling selection of deeper club cuts, cherry picking tracks with extra-terrestrial pads, dreamy breaks, warped drum patterns and pulsating sub bass. Perfectly capturing the intersection of the DRIFT and Midnight Bass sounds, and containing contemporary tracks by frontrunners of the UK scene such as Coco Bryce and Breaka, her submission to the series is perfect 6am afters music and is one you won't want to sleep on.

A true hero of UK underground music we are thrilled to have the one and only Warlock stepping up to the plate providing a special 2 hour session of all things dark in garage. A seminal figure in uk rave scene since the early 90s Warlock has carved unique path whether being involved in the early free party scene playing warehouse techno, playing forward thinking electro at vital parties such as haywire or even nowadays where his productions can be found on labels such as Sneaker Social Club; all of this only scratching the surface.

“This mix captures the really exciting times that were the early 2000s. That 2-Step sound was a perfect melting pot for all the garage, breaks and drum & bass that had come before it. A cross section of producers taking influences from left right and centre. I’ve got fond memories of traipsing around Soho record shops like Black Market and heading down to Croydon to Big Apple, picking up these tunes, blagging promos, and then times spent at FWD particularly the early days at Velvet Rooms next to the old Astoria (all now sadly demolished).  It was a big influence on me at the time - just as I was setting up my label Rag & Bone Records which it was also a big influence on. Great days, overlooked for years but finally coming of age.”
