After a long hiatus our unsigned series is back. Producers who have appeared on the series so far have been approached by labels and subsequently had material released by them after we helped shed some light on the new talents. We hope we’re able to do the same with the next one in the bunch, coming from Melbourne's @darcykhalid. 

Get to know a little about him below:

Hey, I’m Darcy Khalid.

I’ve been producing music for about five years and DJing and playing piano for a little longer. Since I moved to Melbourne in 2016, I’ve been producing music with at least the vague intention to release it publicly. I wanted to wait until I felt I had a sound that was my own, and I guess that time has come.

My Unsigned track is from my debut EP. The record features three quite different tracks, including elements of ambience, techno, drum & bass – even hints of jazz on the A1. Hakone Schoolyard is the A2, and if someone called it a broken beat ambient techno jam, I wouldn’t call them crazy.

It evolved three times over about 18 months. I made a version, got bored of it, left it alone, then repeated that process several months later. What you hear now is take three. I can be a bit ambitious with my compositions, so they’re often long and multi-sectioned. My favourite songs will change a lot, weaving between atmospheres, energy levels and tempos, often seamlessly, but occasionally with bold abruption. I tried to do both here. I hope it worked.

As the cracks in the wall open up in Melbourne and we get the jumper cables out to reboot, Yi Lum opens us up to the  otherside with Fair Shake 008. She flies the flag for each of us, peeling us from our devices to guide us on how to engage again. Venturing out after endless months in these four walls she peeks through the keyhole, takes a step or two outside, checks the coast is clear then breaks out at pace to burn up the bitumen. This is a tough mix, built from steel, but the tough get going and there’s hope for the future. 

At this juncture,

It’s a matter of personality. No shortage of it, if we’re about to talk about the Florence born and bred Marco D’Aquino. And it’s like that since the very beginning, when his brother introduced him to labyrinths and paths of electronic music. Bare in mind, he did it with a marvellous no-borders attitude and still does: techno and house may be the starting points, sure, but they have to collide with aerial ambient suspensions, destructured experimentalism, visionary electro new millennium restorations. Going for the easiest way and/or relying to the flavour-of-the-month is, well, simply forbidden. After a series of interesting releases on labels such as the Florentine Bosconi, Wo Land and Don't Be Afraid, in 2016 Numbers called him to make an EP that marks Dukwa's debut in the electronic music scene and club. After the release of "Shattered in a Thousand Pieces", Dukwa decides to open his own label where he can express his talent and convey all the most abstract shades of him. It is at this very moment that the BBC notices him and asks him for the musical rights to be able to insert "Thoughts" as the final song of the television series "Can You Feel It - How Dance Music Conquered the World" based on the European underground scene. In November 2018 he released his first single "Straight to you" on his label Dukwa Music. The ep immediately enters the bags of international artists such as Peggy Gou , Midland, Carista, Denis Sulta, Jasper James, Ben UFO, William Djoko and many others. We are certain that the performance at the Berghain / Panorama Bar and the Boiler Room are only the beginning of an extraordinary journey.
