Introducing Sha Ru - the new joint project from producers Ma Sha and Rù fueled by a persuasive fusion of balearic downtempo cuts and rich acid filth.

Drawing influences from the sounds of breakbeat, club, hip-hop, and UK bass, Sha Ru’s debut release “Near The Equinoxes” is a rich and exciting collection of cuts out November 8th via Brooklyn’s Sorry Records. The EP features “PCCCC (Lechuga Zafiro Remix)” — a club-ready take from Uruguayan producer Lechuga Zafiro who is known for his incredible releases through Mexico City’s N.A.A.F.I collective and his own Salviatek label/party.

Sorry Records is a Brooklyn based record label putting out beloved dance and pop music world wide. Sweater On Polo AKA Mali “STRINGS” Mase was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, a slow but beautiful suburb 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia. He spent pretty much all of his teenage years skateboarding and trying to stay out of trouble. He started producing trap and rap beats at 17 but quickly got tired of trying to impress local rappers so switched to atmospheric drum and bass and house music which he found less compromising. He has been living in New York since 2017, where he skates and makes music as much as possible and leads a generally mellow life.

“Travel International EP is about moving, traveling, and seeking adventure in life. Not only physically, but also mentally. My goal with all of these tracks was to allow myself to get lost somewhere between the simplicities and complexities of the grooves. I wanted the music to sound fruitful and universal. There’s no particular setting for this music. I just hope wherever the listener desires to make use of it, they can hear it. Half of the EP was sequenced on a DAW, the other half with hardware and recorded onto blank cassettes or into a DAW, so you’re gonna hear some differences between the mediums used.
I want to thank everyone that supported me throughout this journey between the time I started producing and this record being released. I want to thank my two very close friends Julian and Yash for being at the very start of this when I was only 17. Special thank you to everyone I’ve met in NYC and across the globe. Enjoy”

	 The third track on Closet Yi’s Ruminate EP, “Eternal Countdown” serves as a neat encapsulation of what makes the up-and-coming DJ stand out in a bustling South Korean electronic scene. Falling somewhere between techno’s darker, more industrial edges, IDM’s jittery, robotically precise rhythms, and UK Garage’s hypnotic, frenzied distortions, “Eternal Countdown” puts the range and versatility of this young artist on full display. 
	Signed to “Honey Badger Records”, South Korea’s preeminent and oldest underground electronic label, this is Closet Yi’s first EP under their banner. Her profile has been steadily rising since she released her debut EP for London-based label, “No Bad Days”, earlier in 2020, and the influence of UK 90’s garage and rave music is clear from the very first notes of Ruminate. “Eternal Countdown” takes this homage to a new, gnarled, chaotic level. What starts out as a seemingly standard UK garage beat quickly evolves into a brash, multi-layered, genre-bending stomper. Multiple earworm-y, springy acid lines are juxtaposed with thunderous bass hits and bouncy synths, topped off with what sounds like distorted yelps from a chorus of Korean children chanting in unison. This latter detail lends the track an almost anthemic feel, even as it careens into a paranoid, siren-filled lurch, with skittering hi-hats raising the tempo to dizzying, uncomfortable heights. 
	The sheer volume of ideas in this one track—and displayed throughout the entire EP—is impressive in itself, but it could prove too cluttered in less capable hands. Closet Yi handles all these elements without falling under the weight of her own diabolical invention, which marks a promising sign that this bold new artist not only has something to say with her wild experimentation, but she has the skill and chops to say it with panache.
