"Sun's Out! Guns Out!" is strictly comprised of tunes that I have in my physical collection – tunes coming direct from my Jamaican library of 7" 45s, 10"s, and 12"s. These songs are true expressions of the unfortunate reality, history, and on-going strife that the people of Jamaica have endured for their entire existence. The true life tales of perpetual violence and guns are brought to you by those that live (lived) and shaped the roots, reality, and culture that is Dancehall.

There are many strains of Dancehall. This mix focuses on the roughest toughest strain, affectionately known as "Gun Talk." ORIGINAL BADMAN TING, SEEN.

Along with the Gun Talk tunes (primarily focused on the late 1980s and all of the 1990s), there are tunes that date back to 1965, effectively spanning the history of Jamaica's music with Mento, Ska, Rocksteady, Early Reggae, Early Dancehall, all the way up to the digital revolution and onward. The entire spectrum of tunes here are the harsh tales of each artist's experience, observation, and lyrical wizard commentary. Listen close. There's a story being told.

The narrative of this mix, "From Darkness, Forward with Love and Light," was sparked by life events that loved ones are going through. Whether it's relationships and love (found it or still searching), realizations of self-worth, overcoming extremely cruddy situations, learning to take care of yourself, personal challenges and breakthroughs, coming to terms with something, letting go, taking low roads, high roads, and everywhere in between –– just know that it's going to get better. You are surrounded by people and other animals that love you, no matter what. Things are always going to change — that's just the physics of life. Find and harness the love, light, and strength to always move forward. We're right there with you in all of this.
