The idea for this song came together in the late 90's. The words were inspired by what I was experiencing at the time. It seemed like just a repetitive phrase at first, but after listening to it several times, I realized how something little meant so much. 
When I first sent this to the Snuff Crew, they immediately replied that they were interested in it. I took the song back in the studio and gave it a slight update.  I kept the original vocal and 707/808 drums. 
I updated the Bass line and used a Juno 60 as opposed to the original Prophet 600 sound. I'm both surprised and happy as far as the amount of attention this has received. I can't thank The Snuff Crew enough for inspiring me to finish this. Also want to thank Strictly Rhythm for taking it to the next level with their Digital release.  Currently the vinyl version is the only place you can get the Acid & Instrumental mix. Also there's is an  A capella version found only on the digital release. The Ep is now available at most record stores and digital online sites. Here are a few links.

After the landmark twentieth instalment of our Watergate Mix Series we knew we had to secure an impressive successor to the throne. To preserve the standards set by our previous selectors, who have set the bar incredibly high, we've enlisted the genius of one of todays brightest stars to take the helm for Watergate Mix 21; the one and only, Culoe De Song.

Hailing from the northern shores on South Africa's east coast, Culoe De Song has broken out internationally and paved an impressive path for himself over the last decade. From his first release on fellow South African export Black Coffee's 'Have Another One' compilation to his multiple anthems on the mighty Innervisions and renowned Japanese imprint Mule Musiq to his most recent long player 'Washa' on his own imprint De Song Music, Culoe has always celebrated his musical heritage and the sounds of home.

By blending the fundamentals of modern House and Techno with the aesthetics of traditional African musicality, Culoe De Song has become one of a few pivotal figures in pushing the agenda for the 'Afro- House' movement to the international stage. With regular appearances at Watergate, it's no doubt that his sound flawlessly fits the modus operandi of the club. Whether it's an intense journey upstairs in the dark under the LEDs or a morning of deep euphoria as the sun pours over the water floor, Culoe's approach and execution never fail to capture the essence of the moment in only a way that he can create. With this skill and his signature brushstroke, he has crafted an impeccable journey spanning an entire spectrum of club moments into an hour and twenty minutes. Not only is the mix flawless, but it features an extravagant array of unreleased and well known tunes including four absolutely stunning exclusive originals from Culoe De Song himself which will follow as an EP on Watergate Records shortly after.

On the whole, the mix is an indisputable illustration of Culoe's kaleidoscope of talent, philosophy, and artistry and is equal parts uplifting and infectious as it is psychedelic and dreamy. Than Sadet is a secluded beach on an island in Thailand. A mysterious atmosphere haunts it. It’s windy and the weather is always a bit worse compared to the rest of the isle. There are many cliffs and you can’t swim because the waves are too high. Four years ago I visited Than Sadet for the first time and I’ve been coming back ever since. At one point I decided to bring my studio equipment. For a week, I dedicated my days to making music. Those sketches formed the basis of the album.

Each track is based on a particular Than Sadet aesthetic. For example, ‘Mr. Singh’ is a masseur on the beach who uses fire while doing his shiatsus. ‘Buddha's Bridge’ is a wooden bridge that leads to an impressive Buddha monument; Seven Kings’ is an ode to a local waterfall. Tracks like ‘Mai Pen Rai’ and ‘When Light Gives You Hope’ are representative for Than Sadet. I tried to create an introspective album that does what the island did to me: it puts life into perspective.

'Wrong With Us' came about in a frenzied session with Simian Mobile Disco at their studio in the English countryside. We started with some modular synths and went from there adding vocals, drums and other odd ends. In the end, we finished four songs in four days, and I couldn't have been happier with the results.

It's a reflection on the state of the world we live in today.
