Miguel Campbell - We Remember (Michael Jackson Tribute)

Jamie Jones launched the Hot Creations label back in 2010 with 'Ruckus'. Now Jamie makes his long awaited return to Hot Creations with 'Planets, Spaceships', a four-track EP set for vinyl release on 18th November 2013.

These tracks have been Jamie's secret battle weapons all summer. Tapping into a dark sider but with that distinctive Jamie Jones melody and drive that are a signature feature of his DJ sets. Title track 'Planets, Spaceships' features vocalist Daniela Caldellas from Digitaria, who has an album planned for Hot Creations in the new year, whilst 'Cookie Monster', 'Starp Trek' and 'Stick' take things even deeper with vocal snatches and crisp claps.

Highlighting his avant-garde style and showcasing exactly why he is recognised as one of the leading figures in the rebirth of house music, 'Planets, Spaceships' further cements Jamie's place in the dance music hall of fame.

The latest instalment in the successful Disco-House-Edit imprint „Black Jukebox”, run Exploited label boss Shir Khan, features 4 heavy vinyl jams. The first two come from the hands of Exploited's very own Mickey, one from the Mekanism and the fourth track is accredited to Matpat. 

Shir Khan has made sure that this 9th edition in his sublabel is as powerful as those that came before it. The cut consists of cutting edge material by all three artists, with Mickey kicking the record of with two undeniably funky productions: 'Holding Hands' and 'LA Anyway'. After the success of his debut album ‘Back In Flight School’ on Hot Creations, Miguel Campbell has spent the last three years living in Ibiza, dividing his time between touring and the studio. Since returning to his hometown of Leeds last year, his production output has been prolific, with a slew of original tracks and remixes coming through his own Outcross Records imprint, the same label that will release forthcoming second artist album, ‘Night Drive Without You’ on 11th December in both double pack vinyl and digital formats.

Referencing the style of some of his early work and featuring a variety of both vocal and instrumental cuts, the disco-tinged layers of all 15 tracks make a firm nod towards the French touch scene of the late 90s and early 2000s, but despite the retro influences, Miguel’s skill here lies in creating a body of work that sounds both fresh and futuristic. Rumbling basslines and glossy, electro synths combine perfectly on the future-facing ‘Melody of Love’, while on final track ’Light and Darkness’ he demonstrates a similar balance; incorporating computerised vocal, underpinned by heavy bass licks - the airy vocal countered by the weight of the low end.

Vocal tracks on the album feature the talents of both Benjamin Diamond, who appeared on Stardust’s ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ and frequent collaborator Beccs Lott, who joined Miguel on ‘Not That Kind of Girl’ and more recently on his ‘Free Falling’ EP. ‘Run With Me’ in particular showcases the synergy between the pair on a track full of verve and bounce, while on ‘Interfunk Music’, he joins forces with Diamond to cosmic, spaced-out effect, with Diamond's hazy, hollowed-out tones adding a new dimension to the record.

A natural extension of ‘Back In Flight School’, ‘Night Drive Without You’ is built to take listeners on an abstract, heartfelt journey through a mix of house, funk, jazz and disco - a fluid collection of styles that are now a hallmark of Miguel Campbell records. Bold and exciting, it’s an album ready to make its mark.

The ever excellent MOTHER RECORDINGS serves up more club gold, this time from MARTIN WASLEWSKI. His CLOSER release features two tight tacks that prove he has a lush sense of house groove.
Waslewski is a German who grew up on hip hop and now having turned to house finds himself at home under the roof of labels such as Hommage, Monaberry and Heulsuse. All these playgrounds offer him a deserved platform where he never fails to come up with the goods, as is the case again here.

Up first here is CLOSER, six minutes of deep, feel good house music with romantic vocals and colourful chords. The beats are lazy and well swung and this one is perfect for summer parties and terraces this year. On the flip, COME TO ME is stripped back and more driving, with a tech edge to the beats. There is more great melody though, and some smeared synths that add a sense of scale and weight.

Miguel has been galvanised by the house music scene since the early 90's and has also been a DJ since that time. Miguel began producing his own music as one 'half' of the underground duo HCB.

In 2006 he founded his own label Outcross Records, which became a home for his music. Teaming up with fellow Leeds resident Matt Hughes to form MAM, a duo that has remixed the likes of the Imany, Deadmau5 and Flight Facilities, as well as putting out releases via Wolf+Lamb, Future Classic and Outcross itself.

​In 2010 he became the newest addition to the Hot Creations team and went on to pick up international recognition, capturing the imaginations of party people the world over.

Miguel's forward march continues as he refuses to relent, working on more music, including recent remixes for Basement Jaxx & RÜFÜS and continuing to travel to foreign shores, spreading his unique brand of funk around the world.
