@adab arrived at a love of electronic music on the dance floor of queer-run techno party In Training in their native Cleveland. Before long, they went on to established themselves as a DJ who plays electric sets of house, techno and club beats as part of a constant quest to "seek the unifying elements in the world and themselves." The Pittsburgh resident and radio regular is now half of Cleveland party Heaven is in You and has an international profile that is only set to grow as they continue to confound expectations with each new set. 

That starts with this week's mix, which is an other-worldly trip into genre-less electronics. Dense and cinematic ambiance and sound design set the opening scene - it's a world of searching synths and shadowy alien life forms in which a skeletal rhythm eventually appears. Deconstructed dub, club and jungle flavour the ensuing grooves which are heads down and dark. They evoke all manner of dystopian futures and make for a brilliantly unconventional ride.

A double pack from Mammo, six tracks digging deep. General Patterns is the first time he’s released a record outside of his own constellation of labels and identities. Something new.

You can file this one under (dub) techno too if you like. Linked to the music he’s made as Puddlerunner last year in some ways, or the texture of tracks like Variable. It was compiled with Short Span following the completion of intense work on the ambient album Landmarks under his given name Fabiano, and quickly brought together an extended set of stripped back, patient, wonderfully rewarding sound. Really beautiful. Some mossy earthy texture, some starlit night skies.

Interesting Results hails not from Rotterdam but that other place below sea level: New Orleans. As a lifelong lover of electro (and discordant noises in general) this playlist was thoughtfully curated from some of her favorite songs lately. She spent her teenage years exchanging mix tapes and CDs with friends and has been DJing on and off for over two decades starting with her local college radio station KLSU-FM where she co-hosted an electronic and experimental music show called the Kitchen Sink for three years. Her transition from vinyl to digital occurred only more recently though she has no plans to part with her record collection! While she is a high school teacher by day and a selector at heart, it is her love of dancing that most influenced her shift to DJing in club environments and the dancefloor is often where you’ll find her. Even still, she’s constantly scouring everywhere and anywhere for new tracks with the same fervor that a research scientist devotes time to their own field of study. While the electronic music scene in New Orleans might be small, it is quite special and steadily growing; here’s to hoping this mix might catch the attention of some of her favorite acts and help to bring them here! ephemeral objects is a DJ, VJ, producer, and digital artist who thrives at the intersection of ambient introspection, driving rhythms, and textural lushness. Her sets are both meditative and kinetic, drawing from underground gems and forward-thinking sounds to create richly layered sonic experiences.

A rising star in Vancouver’s underground, she has played festivals across BC and will performing this year at Basscoast, and as i+eo — her A/V collaboration with IHA — at MUTEK Montréal. Her mixes have aired on global platforms like Shy People, HER 他, and PPRZ. In 2024, she was selected for MUTEK Montréal’s inaugural Incubator program.
