Hey Now (Zero 7 Remix)

Few people can claim to have had the influence of electronic music that Stanton Warriors have. For starters no less than two of our current writing team were first inspired to take to the decks and learn to mix after seeing them DJ. Oh and the likes of Disclosure and co. cite them as a major influence too. Even Vice magazine doesn’t have anything bad to say about them or their “brilliant bass music.”

Yes, since bursting onto the scene with their multi award-winning compilation “The Stanton Sessions” back in 2001, the Stanton Warriors’ irresistible and inimitable sound has consistently remained the soundtrack to some of the world’s biggest and best parties over the past thirteen years; from East London warehouses, Miami boat parties and illegal Detroit raves, to the stages of Glastonbury, Exit, Burning Man, Ultra and Coachella, selling out global tours and topping DJ lists along the way. 

In the studio, Bristol’s Mark Yardley and Dominic Butler have honed a trademark, uncategorisable sound that is at once all their own, but also utterly indefinable, leading to high-profile releases on XL Records, Fabric, Cheap Thrills, Central Station and Universal, alongside official remixes for everyone from Daft Punk and Fatboy Slim, to MIA and Gorillaz. With such an illustrious back catalogue how could we be anything other than admirers?

So as fans as well as journalists we were naturally excited to secure their considerable talents for an exclusive mix as part of our mix of the day series. The motivation behind undertaking the mix? Celebration. To mark their return to Vauxhall for another massive Stanton Session at Fire this time alongside Scratch Perverts and Cause & Effect.

Oh and then there is a little thing this summer that we think is worth shouting about. Actually it’s not that little and it’s definitely worth SHOUTING about. Iconic rave brand Dreamscape is returning for a big reunion this summer at the MK Bowl and guess who’ve they’ve got as one of the headliners? That’s right Stanton Warriors. We all need some Zinc in our lives. Ask any doctor and he’ll tell you it’s true.  Forgotten your supplements? Fear not as DT is on hand to give you a fresh dose with the exclusive unveiling of a retro Zinc live set from back in 2008. Pulled from the recesses of The End's illustrious history the set takes listeners on a rapid fire journey through the darkest realms of Jungle in a performance just as likely to get pulses racing now as it did then.

But why share this mix now? Well because both us and Zinc like making people dance and wanted to get all you Junglists out there in the mood for his set filled with jungle and drum and bass classics as he takes to the decks alongside Shogun Audio boss Friction in London for Elevate on December 5th.  The night follows on from the highly successful first edition of Elevate back in February with heavyweights Friction and Zinc this time joined Shogun favourites Technimatic and fast rising stars Emperor and Skankandbass who will help curate this bass fuelled occasion.

Mix of the Day: Zinc (Jungle Mix)

I fucking love Tuesdays. Said nobody ever. So to brighten up your Tuesday afternoon we have a nice little treat for you in the form of an exclusive mix from the mystery wrapped in an enigma himself: Claptone.

Little is known about the DJ/Producer with his biography describing him thus: "In a now long forgotten world, many generations ago, a bird like shape emerged from wooded dark- ness, floating and fluttering, drifting and dreaming. Backlit by a bright glow of iridescent light, the undecipherable form wore a dazzling golden mask. Its long beak swooped down like an inverted horn and since then, people have referred to the mythical being simply as Claptone."

Whether or not that is a true account remains open to debate (although we'd put nothing past the avian-mask wearing maestro) but what we can confirm is that he has delivered yet another storming mix for us at Data Transmission ahead of touching down in London at Electric Brixton for Tube & Berger’s much anticipated Deeper Sessions on February 21.
