Artist Mihai Popoviciu has been one of Romania’s most trusted exports. His tracks have since the late 00’s been cropping up on the most respected labels such as International Deejay Gigolo Records, Poker Flat Recordings, and Wiggle.

Another long-running label that has been a consistent home to Mihai is Bondage Music and since 2013 but it is his most up-to-date outing on the label that interests us. Sascha Dive delivers his latest album ‘Back 2 Life’ this December, marking Bondage Music’s 15th anniversary.

Frankfurt-based talent Sascha Dive has a long and esteemed history within house music, releasing material via 8Bit, Raum-Musik and Kwench alongside his own Deep Vibes Recordings, while featuring in Cocoon Recordings, long-standing, ‘In The Mix’ series and gaining support from label boss Sven Väth alongside the likes of Guy Gerber, Maya Jane Coles and Laurent Garnier. He now returns to Bondage Music to mark the imprints’ 15th anniversary with fifteen essential house cuts across his ‘Back 2 Life’ LP - delivering the label’s second ever album in the process.

Dive opens up with the luxurious ‘Whispering Voices’ and ‘This Is My Journey’, two tracks fueled by twinged vocals, glimmering motifs, and dubby chords. The temperature rises on ‘My Life’, before the acidic ripples and spoken words of Messy MC on ‘In The Darkness’ unveils a subliminal slice of electronica.

‘Time Waits For No Man’ sees a standout collaboration alongside the iconic Robert Owens, while resonant kicks and evolving melodies can be found on ‘A Silver Lining on The Horizon’.
The second half unveils further entrancing productions such as ‘Interview With An Alien’, as progressing effects wrap around minimalist-style programming, while ‘Moonwalker’ and ‘Let’s Get It On’ lean towards deep house territories, alongside the up-beat and sun-drenched reverberations of ‘Dreaming Es Verda’ and ‘Tell Me When’.

Citizenn is the moniker of London (via Nottingham) based artist Laurence B. Taking his name from a passing visual reference in the Manga film Akira Citizenn originally arrived via releases on MadTech, the label owned by New Jersey house don Kerri Chandler. Within a year, after singles on Waze & Odyssey’s Street Tracks, 20/20 Vision as well as on the label extension of Love Fever, his favourite underground party, Citizenn had been named DJ Magazine’s Breakthrough DJ of 2013. 

As the musical journey continued, 6 am stints at Berlin's infamous Panorama Bar and a globe-trotting diary taking him from Japan, Tulum, Kiev and everywhere in between, he distilled all these new experiences into his debut LP on Damian Lazarus’s ever-influential Crosstown Rebels imprint. The album entitled 'Human Interface' dealt with themes of human intersectionality with our mechanical counterparts through a tapestry of the tightly wound house and techno influenced an EP, the records receiving national radio play and praise from his peers. Citizenn has been a mainstay at popular Ibiza hotspots such as DC10, Blue Marlin and Sankeys for the quickly growing Abode brand of which he has also released with.

Citizenn has found a clarity of vision within the circus that is life as a successful musician.

	Every artist has a signature. Mihai Popoviciu is no exception. For over a decade the amiable Romanian producer and DJ has built a body of work characterised by deep grooves, crisp precision, and irresistible energy.
	Mihai's singular vision was born in his home town Sibiu (still his home base) which, at the time, lay on the fringes of Europe's thriving dance scene. It was the early '90s. Electronic music was flooding London, Ibiza, Berlin but only a trickle reached his ears. "We would tape German TV shows onto cassette and listen over and over," he recalls.
	With no clubs, record shops or dance culture to speak of Mihai's dream of being an electronic artist seemed remote. He studied architecture and briefly worked in the field, but it was house and techno, not house-building, that was his true calling . "I couldn't DJ, because there were no clubs," he says with a chuckle. But he could buy software, so he started making records. Lots of records. Sometimes one per day, for months on end. The work of the determined young artist began to catch people's ears. His first track was signed to International Deejay Gigolo in 2005, and dozens of releases followed on imprints including Bondage, Highgrade, Poker Flat, Bedrock, Dessous and also his own label Cyclic, established in 2012.
	This calm determination became Mihai's trademark as his career blossomed from production to DJing. After honing is skills in the studio he learned to DJ (on borrowed decks) and began drawing attention in Romania and across Europe. Playing international gigs was a big move for someone who grew up only seeing clubs on TV but Mihai stepped up with professional aplomb. His CV now includes the best clubs in Europe and around the world, from Berghain and Watergate in Berlin; to London's Fabric and The Egg; to D-Edge, São Paulo; DC-10, Ibiza; and more.
	Mihai's ambition with every track and every DJ set, is to transmit the joy and energy that fuels his dream. "It feels great to see people dancing, smiling, having a good time. No matter what I do, that's the main thing." 
	He is equally at home in underground clubs or on festival stages. The one thing that stays the same is his artistry and irresistible delight in music. "Mihai was on his sound from the beginning," says friend and booking agent Benny Grauer. "It has a unique quality. Any time you hear it you know, "That's Mihai". He's done it for years, and it is perfect."
