Il Bosco (@christian-wood)transports us to the glory days of iconic Manchester night, Friends and Family, for the next instalment of our mix series.   A hip-hop, all-vinyl session; pulling together all the favourite records he used to play back then for a very special 60-minutes.

Taking place at the Roadhouse, a sweaty, low-ceilinged basement, the Fat City Records crew ran ‘Friends and Family’ weekly from 2000-2009. In that time it cultivated a huge family-feel fan base, and a solid roster of resident DJs, many of which have no doubt shaped UK club culture as we know it. Alongside Il Bosco, Jon K, MC Kwasi, DJ Riton, Ross Allen and more regularly took to the decks, as well as guest appearances from likes of Madlib, Mr Thing and J Rocc.

From Friends and Family, Il Bosco went on to found @red-laser-records: a Manchester-proud, Italo fusion platform that advocates “Italo Missiles, analogue chuggers, boogie bombs and acid heat”. As a DJ he’s notched up appearances worldwide, most popularly associated with the Italo sounds of his label.
 
This mix takes him back to his roots. Whilst perhaps best listened to as intended: crammed into a sweaty basement, for now, cranking it loud on a bank holiday in the sunshine will definitely do.
