A year on from their critically lauded album ‘Negativity’ and on the cusp of their ten year anniversary as a band, Deer Tick are returning to Europe where they will be touring with The Gaslight Anthem. 

To celebrate their milestone anniversary of 10 years as a band, the Rhode Island quintet have planned a six night residency at Brooklyn Bowl in NYC, starting December 26 and ending on New Year's Eve, where the band will perform five of their favourite band’s records from start to finish and culminate the celebrations on New Year’s Eve with a fan-selected set of 25 Deer Tick songs. 

The band have put together a playlist of their songs to cover their ten year existence as Deer Tick. Of the selection process, John explains:

“I think these songs do a good job of balancing the songwriting, musicianship, and restlessness of Deer Tick. They also highlight the fact that over the past 10 years, Deer Tick has finally eased into becoming a full-fledged band, with permanent members and everything!

This tune came from exploring the key of A on banjo with no capo. Playing in A with no capo opens up a lot of different melodic possibilities on banjo and when I found the main riff I started basing a song around it. The tune really comes to life with the tasteful back and forth of Bobby Britt's fiddle and Andrew Marlin's mandolin.  I love Jon Stickley's creative use of open strings and harmonics on the jam. And Miles Andrews holds the whole thing together on his gut string bass. At just over six minutes it's longer than your typical banjo tune, but if you give the whole track a chance it will take you on quite a ride. Enjoy Thornado!

Yonder Mountain String Band - Dear Prudence

Mihali Savoulidis is the lead singer and guitarist for Vermont rock quartet, Twiddle.  Barely 30 years old, the Jersey native has already drawn crowds at such notable rock shrines as Red Rocks, The Capitol Theatre and Bonnaroo. Twiddle’s fan base is growing rapidly, and Mihali’s signature vocals and guitar work are more than partly responsible for this undeniable momentum. 

Most laud Mihali for his dexterity on guitar, but it’s his lyrics and songwriting capabilities which set his solo act apart. It is the soul of what many hope to find in a solo act.  His mastery of pedals, specifically the repetitive phenomena known as “looping,” beat boxing, and guitar riffs, all prep a multi-textured canvas for song. Mihali’s words are genuine. Shaped by his journey through grief and redemption, he writes songs that serve as a light to many who find themselves lost in their own darkness.

Inspired by artists including Kurt Cobain, Bradley Nowell and Bob Marley, Mihali’s music carries a passionate intent for good.  During his twelve years with Twiddle, Mihali has shared the stage with members of Phish, Blues Traveler, Big Gigantic, Matisyahu, Nahko and Medicine for the People, Trevor Hall and jammed with his all-time favorite guitar player, Jamaican reggae legend, Ernest Ranglin, just to name a few. Mihali currently resides in the green mountains of Vermont, where he's lived since he met his brothers in Twiddle in 2004. When not on tour he can usually be found writing music in the company and of his pride and joy, his wife, daughter, and three golden retrievers.

The GoPro Mountain Games are the country's largest celebration of adventure sports, art, and music all happening June 7 - 10, 2018 in Vail, CO.
