"runaway" is a little different than what i usually put out, but its one of my favorites on the album…i met zac noble through a mutual friend (shoutout jackson) in 2020. this was originally the ending of another song we were working on, but zac came up with a new idea...he recorded a couple of takes on a discord call and it ended up becoming its own thing. i always wanted the song to be more "stripped down" to keep the whole one take/live recording vibe that i got to experience that night

although it might not be everyone's cup of tea, its something that ive really enjoyed over the years. zac is truly one of the most talented artists and i’ve ever met, and im beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him :)

the name "bending lines" represents the fluctuations of our thoughts and moods based on the people around us and how they act. i started this one in the spring of 2018 after going through my first real breakup. it was originally the title song off of an EP called "let go of this flower"...that EP turned into this album

ive had four different people write and sing to this over the years. they were all great, but for some reason, i still kept coming back to the instrumental version. one of my favorite moments on this entire project is the guitar solo...my friend zach recorded about 10 minutes worth of guitar improv (on an iphone) over the piano, and i chopped it up to make the solo. it still gives me goosebumps to this day

“forget” is about escaping a toxic relationship and how it can affect and shape the person you become…from coping in all of the wrong ways and making rash decisions without thinking to sabotaging good friendships and relationships out of fear that something will happen. sometimes it’s hard to truly forget the things that people have done to you (and sometimes, the things that you’ve done to others, too)

if you told me when i started this song back in 2018 that it would end up on this album sounding this good, i honestly probably would've laughed at you. but i'm super proud of how it turned out, and i truly couldnt have done it without alyssa (@ajrichardsonmusic). thanks for listening <3

it felt right to put "petals" first, it serves as a good opener in my head. its been the first track for the majority of the creation of the album

there are two parts: the introduction, which represents a flashback to a past memory or person, and then the present reflection of that memory and the buildup of emotion surrounding the present reaction to that memory. i've struggled to fully move on from my past, and thats what i feel this buildup represents...from the running thoughts of wishing you could go back to the eventual end or realization that the past is the past and that you can never relive your past memories...which can be a good or bad thing. it's just whatever way you decide to take it

"hideaway" is about not wanting to grow up. when i was a kid, nothing felt real. i felt like i could do anything; it felt like nothing truly mattered. but the older i get, the more real life gets, and i start to lose the hope and the spark i once had. i feel like we have all wished, to some extent, that we could hide away from our adulthood and from reality, and live free and in innocence like we did when we were kids

this is one of my favorites...i dont know what it is about this song that i love so much, but i felt like it needed to go on the album. i made some improvements from the version released on "dreamstate" so i hope that you enjoy :)
